"Canadian Rock Band Candelora make their Los Angeles Debut at the world famous Whisky A Go Go"

Dateline: Hollywood, California, April 23, 2013 - Candelora is excited to make their Los Angeles debut with a May 11 show at the Whisky A Go Go. The Whisky, in addition to nurturing countless L.A. bands since the early 60s, also provides the chance for out-of-town acts to showcase their music in front of tastemakers and movers and shakers.

Candelora hope to be one of those bands that win over the Southern California crowd with their emotionally and sonically driven style of hard rock. It is also their intention to break through to other U.S. cities like New York, Seattle, Houston and beyond. They know their job isn't finished in Canada either and Candelora plan to continue to build up their fan base there with an appearance at the NXNE Fest in Toronto in June.

Candelora calls the city of Calgary, Alberta home. For Americans, the very name of Canada conjures up images of snow, cold and remote wilderness... and hockey. That's not all Calgary is known for to be sure, but sometimes the best music comes from desolation and isolation. The band members are certainly not isolated. The relationships in the band have lasted for the lifetimes of its members. Three quarters of Candelora are related by blood: drummer, Lucas Klapper, and lead guitarist, Cory Klapper, are brothers and lead vocalist and guitarist, Mike Ferraro, is their cousin, and childhood friend, Kit Shepetys, plays bass. Familiarity may breed contempt for some, but it also makes for tight bands.

Candelora got its start 2006, when the group first came together as a five piece called Constant Season. Constant Season played some higher profile gigs including one opening for Pearl Jam at the Virgin Festival in 2009. In 2010, the band pared down the line-up to the current quartet and changed the name to Candelora. The name is in honor of Lucas and Cory's Grandmother who had that unusual middle name. She passed away during the recording of their debut record, also named Candelora.

The self-titled album was recorded by award-winning Toronto producer, Douglas Romanow, and mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig (Beetles, Bruce Springsteen).

The music of Candelora, as showcased on the album and in live venues, has been compared to Gas Light Anthem and U2. The Irish arena rockers, in particular, are a big influence on their music. With lyrics inspired by the death of loved ones and relationships, both failed and successful, their other inspirations come from films and novels as well as the music of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Springsteen and Pink Floyd.

Candelora's music is available from iTunes, CD Baby, Tunecore and Melodiya Records in Calgary, AB.

To get a good idea of what their live show is about, Candelora has some clips posted on Youtube that captures their sound live at the Gateway in Calgary, AB. "No Dream is Ever Just a Dream" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHGeSFJwFwM), "Matching Crowns" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeanB8fxhw4) and a cover of the Cranberries hit "Zombie" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsfUyrr-mBM) are available for viewing on their channel.

Check out the clips but don't just watch this band on Youtube. Take advantage of this early chance to see a young, developing band in a club atmosphere like the Whisky provides. You may be kicking yourself a few years from now at this lost opportunity, because Candelora is moving on and up with or without you. They'd prefer it was with you.

"Tunes That Move You"

SELF-TITLED
Candelora
Indie
7-out-of-10

Calgary based Candelora released their self-titled debut record in May of 2011.

Forming in the winter of 2006, this alt-rock quartet hits all the right notes on their long awaited first effort.

Bright guitar riffs intertwine with light and playful piano melodies throughout the disc and a heavy bass line keeps it all in check.

Catchy rhythmic drums drive each song forward and force the listener to move along with every track.

Strings are a frequent guest on this record but thankfully aren't taken overboard, sporadically appearing just when they're needed.

Singer Mike Ferraro's vocals tie all of the pieces together into a very nice package. With a slight dusting of grit and growl, Ferraro's voice is a perfect match to the heavy direction this band has adopted.

Although this record is very similar to other albums in this particular genre, I was pleasantly surprised that each track kept its own unique identity without straying too far from a main musical theme. Pick up this album if you're looking for something different, melodic, and sure to make you move.

"Candelora- Passion Rules"

I know, there are not a lot of musical surprises anymore. It’s boring. Okay maybe Death Cab for Cutie. Pay attention to this cd.

The reason is simple. It’s organic, original and you want to play it again. But not because it’s catchy. It is, but hell this band speaks to you from their inside.

Along with the above mentioned Candelora (an indie release) The Midway State (major label release) should tell you that Canada is again at the forefront of new music (Arcade Fire, City and Colour)

Superb tracks include the atmospheric Lightning, the glorious Atlantic and one of the best tracks I have heard anywhere this year All Anew. Did I mention the killer title track.

You can’t pinpoint a distinct influence. The band is all over the map on the cd, but somehow the album makes sense as a piece of music from start to finish.

Pick this up for all the right reasons

Candelora (TOP PHOTO) may not be smiling but they should be. This self titled cd has incredible passion mixed with equal amounts of a band searching for a definitve sound.

Having said that, tracks like Colour of the Sun, the driving Red Northern Lights, Outland Seranade and Mountain Atmosphere simply can’t miss.

Soundwise the band mixes early Coldplay (The Blue Room) with a wee bit of Arcade Fire and even Nova Scotia’s former alt rockers Sandbox.

An exciting release! This band needs to get out and tour anywhere, anytime. - John Emms

"What's New in CD's: Candelora"

Candelora

(Independent)

The Calgary-based band Candelora are offering up something clever, unique and fresh with their self-titled debut.

Melding the interests and backgrounds of four gifted musicians, the disc never falters creatively for a second from the extremely listenable opening cut Fallen Modern Age and the percussive momentum of Color of the Sun to the full-fledged rocking sensibilities of Red Northern Lights -- the latter also showcases lead singer Mike Ferraro’s voice exceptionally well. Rounding out the band is guitarist/vocalist Cory Klapper, bassist Kristian Shepetys and drummer Lucas Klapper.

1959 takes on a darker, comparatively melancholic tone as its tale unfolds against a wall of blistering rhythm guitar, while No Dream is Ever Just a Dream features a different side of the band – plaintive, mellow and reflective as does A Conscious Heart.

Outland Serenade brings things squarely back to a solid rock foundation as does the fired-up Trophy Hunter.

Ultimately, the disc serves up a spectrum of styles that will certainly keep listeners thoroughly engaged. It’s extremely refreshing to hear home-grown musicians wield a singular talent that demands to be noticed.

Rating: 4 out of 5 - Red Deer Express- Mark Weber

"Candelora"

Calgary's Candelora are a tight band, both on CD and outside of music. Made
up of two brothers, a cousin and a friend, they have a sound similar to
Maroon 5 or Coldplay. It's obvious from the get go that this band is
shooting for mainstream fame. The production is polished, the music muted
and crafted meticulously and the vocals laid on with just the right tinge of
emotion. The photos of the band are just the right amount of “cute guys
looking over their shoulders, wearing trendy clothes and tousled hair” plus
some “Oh hey, I forgot to shave for two days, but I still look good cuz I
got a stylist!” Right now, they sound a little too polished to come off as
genuine, but given some time, a name change and a big name producer, they
should sound right at home on your local AOR radio station right next to
Nickelback. - !Earshot magazine

"Candelora CD review"

The first album for this Calgary based alt-rock quartet, and it shows some real promise.
This band came together in the winter of 2006- not much to do during an Alberta winter but stay inside- when two brothers, a cousin and a lifelong friend decided to make some noise. Produced by Douglas Romanow “Candelora” is a great start, the elements for success are here; tasty guitar playing, nice, juicy bass lines and an impressive drummer. Their sound is somewhere north of U2/ Coldplay, more rockin’ and rollin’, and the distinct lead vocal work of Mike Ferraro. His band mates include brothers Cory & Lucas Klapper (guitars & vocals and drums respectively) and bassist Kristian Shepetys. With some luck, this is the start of a long and successful journey. - John Kerrif, Rossland Radio

"Never Judge an Album By It's Cover"

Candelora’s sound is light and melody driven, carried along by the
ballad-friendly vocals of Mike Ferraro.

Ferraro’s sound is smooth, no rough edges, and the band’s atmospheric pop
sound is a clever match, a creative and upbeat style of hook-powered
material (Red Northern Lights).

A darker take on Candelora’s bright and shiny sound is the acoustic/electric
riff-centric track, 1959.

The dirge-like guitar line, courtesy of Cory Klapper, memorably uplifts the
song’s minor chord mood and offsets Ferraro’s lyrics. The group explores
this theme further on Outland Serenade, but without the intensity displayed
in 1959, instead opting to build to a jangling crescendo.

As atmospherics and a reflective view linger around the edges of the songs,
the bulk of the material on Candelora is on the moody side of the pop/rock
spectrum.

A Conscious Heart rings out with intertwined guitars and keys for a chilly
love song. After this, it’s back to the bright side jingle rock of Trophy
Hunter.

Candelora’s album is an interesting mix of pop and lightly moody rock. - Vernon Morning Star- Street Sounds
