"4 out of 5 Stars for Michael Adam's Debut Album!"

Michael Adam

The Maybe EP

4 out of 5 stars

This album would be good for a seasoned vet, so it’s amazing that this is Michael Adam’s debut.

The offspring of missionary workers, Adam was born in Guatemala and lived there until he was a teenager, when his family moved to Denver. He spent time away from Colorado attending school in Boston, before returning to the state to complete his masters’ in?Spanish literature. On the day of his first PhD course this summer, Adam decided instead to roll the dice with music.

It must be all that worldly knowledge that gives Adam’s music such a full and rich tone, that feels so far beyond an up and comer. Take the first single “NYC,” which starts off sounding like a soft almost Death Cab for Cutie kind of tune, and transforms into a Ryan Adams and the Cardinals rocker just when the song reaches the one minute mark. It’s catchy, country, poppy, folky and rocking all at the same time.

This EP?is just meant to be a taste of things to come, as Adam has a full length he’s working on for release early next year, and if this is any indicator, that album may be awesome.

"Michael Adam's first single "NYC" gets 4.5 out of 5 Stars!"

4.5 out of 5 stars

Michael Adam has done one of the toughest things to do in music. He’s written a happy, Triple-A Radio friendly EP that skips the cheese, but still pulls at the heart. With vocals that range from pop to folk, to a hint of country twang, Adam layers his singer/songwriter approach with enough other elements to keep you on your toes. The single “NYC” is worth it, alone. - The Marquee Magazine

"Michael Adam unveils his “folk-country-pop” fusion at Cervantes OS July 20, 2010"

Local artist Michael Adam will be performing his newly released music collection, The Maybe EP, July 20 at Cervantes OS at 9 p.m, opening for the Crunchy Western Boys. A striking voice in a growing number of local music scenes, Michael Adam has attracted attention in Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins for his well-crafted guitar play and memorable song writing: “I’m going for a new fusion of folk, country and pop,” he said. “I don’t want to lose that original roots sound, and I want to excite people with clever, innovative hooks and rhythms.”

The Maybe EP is the product of much ink, paper and precision from a year of writing and rewriting. It features his newly released single, “NYC”, which can be downloaded for free at his Web site: michael-adam.com/. Produced by Mike Binder at Current Productions and mastered by Geoff Gray at Far and Away Studios, Michael Adam has surrounded himself with proven talent on the state and national levels. Erin Jo Harris, singer for local band Bop Skizzum – the side project of Flobot’s Andy Guerrero – also appears on the disk and adds an extra element of quality to an already distinguished collection of songs.

Michael Adam headlined the MS Walk in Denver in 2010 and has played at the Walnut Room, Meadowlark, and the Mercury Cafe. He has also opened for several national touring artists, including: Cameron McGill and What Army, Cameron Rafati, Seth Brady and Dave Tamkin. This fall, Michael Adam will take his guitar to the NACA showcase in California.

An avid reader and writer, Michael Adam pulls from a lifetime of experiences as a child in Guatemala and as a student in Boston and the UK. He attended high school in Denver and is currently a Ph.D. student in Spanish Literature at CU Boulder. The music and writing of Ryan Adams, Johnny Cash, Joshua James, Bon Iver and Joe Purdy have inspired Michael Adam’s life and music. - Mark Pleiss

The Maybe EP (slated for late June 2010)

He was born under the Mayan moon in Guatemala City. Braved the trains, planes and taxis in Europe. Somehow he ended up here and there.

With some broken hearts and no home, Michael Adam picked up a guitar, wrote some songs and then wrote some more. He stepped on stage. People liked him and dug his tunes.

About his forthcoming EP, he says, "Music takes time and patience. I've worked long and hard to get these songs just right and am very excited to put out my EP. I hope people can relate and sing along"
