Michael Atkins

Michael Atkins is an accomplished world class musician who has been singing and playing the piano since a very young 6 months old. He's been writing songs since age thirteen, and performing on stage for just as long.

His singing style could best be described as soulful and smokey, but with a contemporary edge. Think Lou Graham (Foreigner), or Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes) meets Gavin DeGraw. His piano playing style is something akin to Elton John, but informed by David Gray.

When listening to Michaels songwriting you will find yourself taking a journey through the likes of Wilco, Peter Gabriel, & Ben Folds. His songs are cinematic in scope, yet intimate in delivery containing subject matter dealing with things that affect every person.

Michaels newest release is entitled "...a walking shadow". The title is taken from a speech from Shakespeares "Macbeth" and the record is a study of the grieving process. Inspired by the death of his father in 2002 "...a walking shadow" took seven years to complete, was self produced, and was recorded in four different cities. Released on Sept. 19, 2009 Michael felt he needed to release this album because in his own words: "There wasn't very much out there in the way of music that dealt with loss in a constructive way. I wanted to put something out that could carry someone through the entire process of losing someone be it through death, or a parting of ways. Loss is a painful thing."

Apart from being a writer and performer, Michael is a full time musician who has toured with some well known, and some not so well known artists. He is also working five nights a week in Austin at Pete's Dueling Piano's on 6th st. Michael also leads congregational worship from time to time, and is working on an album of all original worship songs.
