Michael Burgos
friendly, focused, and hard-working musician
Biography
With musical roots that stem from a humble basement in Virginia, Michael Burgos has worked his way through venues in the Washington, D.C. area, recital halls at Berklee College of Music, clubs in the Boston area, the Nakas Performance Theatre at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Athens, Greece, and he has aspirations of taking his passion for performance much further.
Picking up drumsticks at the age of 12 and debuting as a performer in front of an auditorium of hundreds at age 13, Burgos knew from the start where his heart wanted to be: on stage. During high school, Burgos gigged around the Washington, D.C. area with two bands and studied drums with Grant Menefee, a Berklee alum who also taught Even Taubenfeld (Avril Lavigne), Nate Morton (Vanessa Carlton, Mandy Moore), and Jon Theodore (The Mars Volta).
Following in the footsteps of his drum instructor, Burgos attended Berklee College of Music, graduating in 2006. While at Berklee, Burgos regularly sat in on recording sessions and performed in the Boston area with artists such as Graphs & Points and Kelsey Bennett, granddaughter of Tony Bennett. Also during his time at Berklee, Burgos studied under the guidance of music industry veteran Jeff Dorenfeld as Co-Director of Heavy Rotation Records, through which, he met and gained further insight from Joey Zehr, drummer of The Click Five, and Dave McWane, lead singer of Big D and the Kids Table. Through academic and musical achievement, Burgos was selected as 1 of 12 students to participate in Berklee's first-ever semester abroad in Athens, Greece. After the Athens program, Burgos appeared in a feature article in the Greek music magazine Mousikos Tonos.
Fresh out of Berklee, Burgos is continuing to drum, as a performer and an instructor, and is writing songs for a future project as well as taking vocal lessons with Carol Westcott, who taught Mike Smith (Limp Bizkit, Snot). After a fruitful college experience, Burgos looks forward to the musical journeys that lie ahead.

Lyrics
Windowsill
Written By: Michael Burgos
Windowsill
Verse 1:
My life was a dreadful bore
Everyday was a paler shade of gray
When from my perch
I heard a chirp
Resounding from my windowpane
A beautiful bird had crashed
Visible was a badly punctured wing
Though she was hurt
I knew the bird
Would be the one who'd comfort me
Pre-chorus 1:
Her singing is bringing bliss
Soothing my weary soul
Chorus 1:
My windowsill's been full of song
Since she flew my way
The melodies are like chiffon
Cascading out from her bill
At night my ears are satisfied
And the days are just as great
I’m glad that little bird survived
Hitting my windowsill
Verse 2:
I brought her inside my home
Being careful to treat her gingerly
To show me thanks
She always sang
As time repaired her injury
As seasons progressed along
Listening to her song became a chore
And with a sigh
I said goodbye
I let her soar
Into the sky
With fear I'd hear her nevermore
Pre-chorus 2:
Her singing I sorely miss
Sadly I weep inside
Chorus 2:
My windowsill's been void of song
Since she flew away
I see the choice I made was wrong
I wish she was with me still
At night my eyes observe the sky
And when shooting stars display
I wish that little bird would fly
Back to my windowsill
Bridge:
Deprived of her voice
There isn't a noise
Just an ever-increasing quiet
Only her breath
Could salvage this empty nest
And save me from this deafening silence
Chorus 3:
My windowsill's been void of song
Since she flew away
I see the choice I made was wrong
I wish she was with me still
At night my eyes observe the sky
And when shooting stars display
I wish that little bird would fly
Singing her whippoorwill
Back to my windowsill
