Knowing Michael's music for years, while he was composing on the square millimetre for Oreo Cookies and the like, we absolutely were amazed while listening to the composer's latest release 'Soundscapes', covering 20 plus elaborated polyphonic 'moods'. Polyphonic? Yes, as the sound, environment and music layers melt harmonically into wide space which sends its refreshing breezes to the listener’s ears. Added with a humorous touch, the pieces are like pearls on a string which is not ashamed of its own beauty. We wouldn’t call it new age, although reminiscences are there. Highly romantic and soft at times, its structures are too intelligent, with melodies here and there that remind us of the modern classical composers of the late 20th century. Animal and human ‘nature’ combined with electronics, no cars, no airplanes. Must be hard nowadays to find places to catch the pure sounds, Michael has collected. What a relief. And at the same time: how far have we gone astray. Well, in our heads and in Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s best tradition, it’s back to nature, while the sound unfolds itself by itself, not invading the listener but just by ‘being’ despite the listener: simple and clear. We only can think of Brian Eno who’s humble creations evoke the same feelings in us.
