"Elliott Has A Texas State Of Mind"

To listen to Michael Elliott’s debut album, “Panhandle Waltz,” one would think that the singer-songwriter hails from Texas or some other state in the Southwest. In fact, Elliott was born in Muncie, Ind., and moved to South Bend as a child and has lived here most of his life.

It’s easy, however, to imagine a cowboy sitting around a campfire singing “Green Chile Stew.” Songs such as “She Talked Like Texas” and “Full Moon in August” are perfect for a warm summer evening on a back porch.

Elliott began playing guitar as a teenager and developed a finger-picking/strumming style that sets him apart from the flat pickers and barre chord players that populate the singer-songwriter scene today.
He also plays all of the instruments on “Panhandle Waltz,” proving he also is adept at playing mandolin (“Let Me Stay a Little Longer”), harmonica (“Day’s End”) and Spanish guitar (“Spanish Skirts”).

On the heels of his CD he has already been spending time in the recording studio, working on new tracks for a follow up disc he hopes to release by mid-summer.
His song "I Think A Change Is Coming" is currently being played on radio station 88.1, WVPE, Elkhart, Indiana, on The Back Porch segment. His song "Panhandle Waltz" has also received airplay on the station in the past.

"Panhandle Waltz Review"

Although born in Indiana, Michael Elliott has ties to New Mexico and his new album reflects the Southwest flavor. With a style all his own, he's able to cultivate some of the finest guitar playing I've heard in a long while.
There's 15 tracks on this album that includes many different genres of music.
I'm particularly drawn to the title cut, Panhandle Waltz. I know you'll enjoy this fantastic recording as much as I. - Joe Baker, Backforty Bunkhouse Newsletter (March 2009)

Bio

Michael has a style that combines what he calls "intelligent" country, folk, western, Americana and occasional folksy blues. A strong solo performer, Michael's audiences enjoy both his songs, and the stories that frequently accompany them.
Michael was conceived, as the story goes, at his grand parents house, in Clovis, New Mexico.
Nine months later he was born in Muncie, Indiana. This seems like a trivial detail, except that it helps explain Michael's love of the Southwest, and how he has come to write some of his songs, in a style that he calls Tex/New Mex.

Michael has been playing guitar and writing songs since his early teens. Over the years his musical styles have changed somewhat, but his distinctive finger picking/strumming style sets him apart from the flat pickers and barre chord players so often heard today.

Michael's performing roots run deep. As a teenager, he was part of a local singing group, the We Together Singers, a variation of Up With People. Although the group mostly played locally, they also traveled to cities out of state, and even performed twice at the Indiana State Prison, where Michael was chosen to perform solo. He also played area coffee houses, sang at weddings, and began to hone his craft as a writer and solo performer.

Michael's love of Texas and New Mexico are present in his songwriting. Meeting and marrying his lovely wife Diane, a Texan from Odessa and San Marcos, has added new depth and flavor to his writing and performing.
Don't be fooled, however. In four songs he can take you from a western tinged country song to a love song that will leave you with tears in your eyes, then on to love gone bad, ending on a bluesy number, weaving a tapestry of melodies and stories as he goes.

Michael plays a variety of guitars, mandolin, and 5 string banjo.

Songs from his new CD Panhandle Waltz are currently getting airplay in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Wales, Great Britain.
Take a moment to listen to his music, and discover songs with well written lyrics and strong melodies. Michael refuses to compromise his standards to write for the Top 40 crowd, giving you memorable songs that will touch your heart, and occasionally bring tears to your eyes.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT MICHAEL'S CD PANHANDLE WALTZ:
* Michael,
It's a good CD! I can see the work that went into it - many, many hours. The tracks I marked for airplay are 4,5,6,13 and 15. Musically, lyrically and vocally, Full Moon In August might be the best song on the album. (Al Kniola, The Back Porch, WVPE 88.1, Elkhart, IN.)

* I added Panhandle Waltz to rotation and will be adding more later. Love the bluesy song! You did a great job on the album! I'll talk to you later.
Take care,
Bill G. (Texas Radio Music Show, Lexington, TX.)

* We played She talked like Texas and yes, Michael, many thousands of people heard it. We reach folks in all fifty states and 23 foreign countries.
* (Regarding Panhandle Waltz): Well Michael it IS a hit! We like it and I personally like She talked like Texas a whole bunch.
Joe Baker can open up a huge market for your kind of song if he likes it and i am sure he will. (Ralph, of Ralph's Back Porch, San Augustine, TX.)
