"Michael Gibbons-BELIEVE"

MICHAEL GIBBONS - Believe
Reviewed by Rob

This is what I’ve been looking for: an independent artist that captures a classic rock feel and sound without sounding like a cheap imitation. It’s not Heavy Metal, it’s Rock, and it’s damn good Rock. This guy’s guitar playing is great; he’s not shredding up and down the neck like Dimebag Darrell (but he could, you can tell!), but he’s got an ability that I don’t hear much when I listen to independent artists. He has the ability to play more than one string and not make it sound like a lot of noise. A lot of times when I hear other local acts try to play arpeggios or fast single notes, they get a lot of hum, or their levels are all wrong and you can’t decipher the sounds after a few seconds. Michael has a nice clean sound. He’s definitely a great musician. This man has great chops and arrangement skills. He’s actually been doing this for quite a while, and I’m glad we finally got the chance to hear him. Check out www.gibbonsongs.com for more info on him. Some of the fans of the heavier stuff out there probably wouldn’t dig Michael Gibbons, unless they’re more into the skill thank the heaviness, but those who like Rock, especially Classic Rock, would probably love this CD. I’m giving it a 5, which is something I rarely do with independent bands. I’m not completely enthralled, but I am pleasantly surprised and I must admit I really like the CD, and I feel that giving it a 4 wouldn’t be doing Michael justice for the obvious hard work he’s had to put into his music to get this good. "Michael Gibbons-Believe"

MICHAEL GIBBONS – BELIEVE
Gibbons is a solo artist who has issued a demo CD with straight rock songs like Believe, Circles and Worlds Of Souls. Believe is certainly not aimed at hard rocking guys and gals, but the man’s talent is very clear. It might be a one-man project, but the drums, vocals and the guitars are all impressive and, if not original, certainly creative. Gibbons used to spend time in hardcore, but little on this disc hints at that style. Instead, Believe is about great hooks, great picking, fun vocals and fine harmonies. Circles is probably the best track here while The Traveler reminds one of Saga. This song also has a quirky split-second backing vocal on it. A couple of the tracks have some cracks at experimentation on them. Worlds Of Souls has a touch of New Age with the samples of water and waves and is minimalistic. Four Suns Shine is slow and acoustic. There are moments like Lynyrd Skynyrd and a couple of Manowar-like vocals here too.
Michael Gibbons certainly looked hot with his long mane from years ago, but this CD is a cool listen for fans of singer/songwriter rock music. Visit http://www.gibbonsongs.com or e-mail info@gibbonsongs.com. – Sheila Wes Det

"Believe" (Self-produced)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Michael Gibbons' self-produced release, "Believe," is a solid, well done CD. "Believe" is dedicated (and I use the words directly from the CD cover - I hope Michael does not mind) "To all Emergency Service Personal: FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, EMS, all other Civil Servants, Unionized and organized Laborers, and all who honorably sacrificed their lives during the rescue operation, September 11, 2001: Your warrior souls forever live."

Like those words, the lyrics on "Believe" are eloquent and soulfully sung, each telling a heartfelt story buoyed by some simply excellent guitar work.

I would say the only thing missing from this exceptional CD is record company to get it out to the people and a producer to give the CD one more final polish.

Michael Gibbons is an extraordinary rock'n'roll guitarist and storyteller and I think he has a great future in this business.

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

"Just like the Rock I used to hear"

Just like the rock I used to hear....
Reviewer: Kelly O.
After the rock guitarists got elbowed off of MTV, I wondered where they all went. Well, one of them ended up here. The guitar work on this album is top-notch, a reflection of real musical skill and very nice to listen to. The lyrics, at times, almost seem to get in the way, but aren't problematic - as far as lyrics go, they're sufficient. Musically speaking, this is a real treat. If I were looking for some tracks to help build a soundtrack (for almost any genre) a couple of these would certainly make the list. - CDbaby.com

"Michael Gibbons "Believe""

There's a convergence of beauty in many forms in the music of Michael
Gibbons. Rock crunch, progressive intelligence, structural complexity
mingled with musical accessibility, ballad rock, folksy gentleness,
bright energy and even more merge on Gibbons' album "Believe." Gibbons
is a smart artist who is able to combine the brainy appeal of prog
rock with the user-friendliness of radio rock - without dumbing
himself down. This artist offers appeal for fans of rock the way it
was ten and twenty years ago while still keeping the attention of more
contemporary-minded listeners. Catchy without being copycat, textured
and of utmost importance, absorbingly melodic. Gibbons layers in the
different elements of each song in a sensual embrace of heartfelt
songwriting that woos those seeking head-shaking rock-n-roll energy as
well as those wanting something more emotive and, dare I say it,
romantic. Life-affirming, honest, emotionally honest ... Gibbons has
found a voice that is his and it's calling out to listeners everywhere

"MICHAEL GIBBONS ‘BELIEVE’"

MICHAEL GIBBONS ‘BELIEVE’ (INDEPENDENT)

Guitarist/singer/songwriter from New York with a solo-CD release titled ‘Believe’. His guitarwork is very impressive, but vocally it’s not. Musically nice 80s influenced Melodic Hardrock with strong guitar riffs, but sadly the songs itself lack good melodies and most of the songs do not have catchy memorable choruses, but happily there are always exceptions and in this case the song “The traveller” is a very strong melodic rocker with a catchy chorus. Nevertheless, a nice 80s hardrockalbum, which sounds like a cross between TED NUGENT and RICK RAY, although the 2nd part of the CD is much calmer (acoustic guitars).
