Bio

Michael Hinckley writes songs that sit at the intersection of roots rock and intensely personal poetry. His music is “rendered with a loving artfulness that speaks of [his] deep devotion to this most mystical of American musical expressions” (Underground Nashville).

Michael currently lives and writes in Nashville, TN.  He frequently performs at the premier listening rooms and acoustic venues with Nashville’s top writers.  In 2013 his music was featured on The Mormon Channel, the official podcast of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  In 2014 he will release his first solo effort, “Hang a Black Cloth,” a personal collection of folk poetry and character-driven tunes.

A native of Omaha, NE, Michael played guitar and fronted groups in the local music scene before he traded the openness of the plains for the majesty of the Rockies. During this time he wrote, sang, and played guitar for the folk group Engines of Commotion. He toured the US, Europe, and Asia, often performing with the premier folk musicians of the locales he visited. Engines of Commotion won the second-place prize at the 2010 Telluride band competition at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.
