While other teenagers in Elizabethtown, Kentucky were listening to alternative rock and the like, Michael spent his school years mesmerized by the rhythm and blues and the soul music of the greats, such as Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Luther Vandross and David Sanborn. If you listen to his work, it will quickly become apparent that Michael J. Thomas' is a 1st class talent. His love of smooth jazz, together with his natural talent and tireless, dedicated practice, has paid off.

Michael has the experience to meet any challenge that his climbing career may present. As a teen, while still an amateur, he won many talent shows and performed often as a solo artist for school and community functions. At the age of 19, he was asked to join the Jive Rockets, a band that toured many larger Midwest venues. They opened for bands such as the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy, Sister Soleil, and Bill Haley's Original Comets.

Michael's career has continued to grow. He opens the Seabreeze Jazz Festival and performs in many of the local night spots in Florida's panhandle. Most recently, Michael can be seen performing with a trio, The DC Horns, at Rutherfords and the Ocean Club in Destin, Florida.
