This Room
Written By: Michael Kelly
This room has four walls
two windows and a door
a fireplace that doesn't work
and a cold wooden floor
this room has a table
and a lamp without a shade
and up upon the mantle
there's an empty flower vase.
This room has a blanket
on a antique double bed
carved into the headboard
are all the words we said
and this room has a pillow
I kick it across this room
no matter just how far it goes
I still smell the perfume.
And this room has some nightmares and a half a dozen fears
creepin' footsteps up above and a bucket full of tears
and this room has some creatures crawlin' 'cross the floor
they show their teeth and hiss at me while blockin' out the door.
This room has an echo
bouncing of the walls
I swing and swear I hit it
but the damn voice never falls
and this room has old memories
crooked shadows laced with doom
reachin' out to grab me
from every corner of this room.

Tell Lisa
Written By: Michael Kelly
Tell Lisa the party is over
and the cake melted down to the floor
tell her all the dreams that we dreamed of
I picked up and kicked out the door
tell Lisa she's out of my life now
and I threw away the keys to the store
tell Lisa the party is over
and I don't want her anymore.
Tell Lisa the bottle is empty
and her potion ain't workin' like before
tell her all the rules that she made up
were ruthless and rotten to the core
tell Lisa the addiction is gone now
and there's no tremblin' left to explore
tell Lisa the battle is over
and I don't need her anymore.
If you're talkin' about good things and happiness
well we all wanna feel it for sure
but when you talk about Lisa in the same context
you gotta know she was the perfect cure
So, tell Lisa the raining is over
and the sun is lookin' better than before
tell her all the flowers are growin' again
and workin' the garden ain't been such a chore
tell Lisa all the stars are shining
and the moon is smilin' heavy on the shore
tell her that her footprints have faded
and I don't love her anymore.
No, I don't love her anymore.

Worn Out Country Boots
Written By: Michael Kelly
Walkin' through a gentle rain on 16th avenue
sometimes it pours down heavier but there's nothin' I can do
the sidewalk reaches up at me just like it was glue
and keeps me movin' back and forth in my worn out country boots.
The words and music in my head humm out another tune
while my guitar picks the melody to make it all brand new
but the guy there in the office says hey man you come back soon
well I guess he doesn't know about my worn out country boots.
And you can bet your bottom dollar yeah you can bet your house and lot
every single mile in town is every single mile I've got
no matter how they throw the dice or who says pay your dues
just ask this Nashville sidewalk and my worn out country boots.
The night is fallin' down on this lonesome avenue
the scenic daytime colors have all turned back into blue
but just enough to let a bit of starlight shine on through
to brighten up the footsteps of my worn out country boots.
And you can bet your bottom dollar yeah you can bet your house and lot
every single mile in town is every single mile I've got
no matter how they throw the dice or who says pay your dues
just ask this Nashville sidewalk and my worn out country boots.

Playin Tunes For One
Written By: Michael Kelly
Sittin' in the alley
a bottle in my hand
I don't know how I got here
but I'd like to understand
and my guitar string is broken
guess that's how I cut my thumb
but my memory's gone short spoken
and my head feels like a drum
as I fumble in the melody
of playin' tunes for one.
In this concrete valley
the sun don't shine at all
makes it hard to make out
the writing on the wall
defenceless superstitions
bloody claw marks on the run
a magicians hell is calling
to send a good man well undone
deep into the echos
of playin' tunes for one.
But it don't matter much at all
'cause no one hears a thing
even though the sound explodes
into a sonic sting
and climbs above these ghostly walls
in colors made of rain
just to hover then to fall
back down into my veins.
My vodka bottle's empty
and I'm out of cigarettes
as my heart runs chasing memories
my head says to forget
down this trail of rolling dumpsters
kept alive by alley rats
and the flapping sound of thunder
from about a thousand bats
swirling in a vicious hit and run
while playin' tunes for one.

Love Glows
Written By: Michael Kelly
It usually starts out with a special look and smile
then you open up your heart to a brand new lover's style
stars sparkle in your eyes, you're skeptical but realize
that all of your hurt and lonliness just up and goes
and so love glows.
Then your body ignites as your passion begins to bloom
and you find yourself makin' love in each corner of the room
rollin' in a sweet caress, until you both look like a mess
all tangled up tight together but so exposed
and so love glows.
Burnin' like a mountain in a hundred mile an hour wind
hotter than a Molotov cocktail with the fuse rammed in
Kilauea erupts in you, as your passion begins to spew
and ecstasy rocks your body 'till the lava flows
and so love glows.
You look up to heaven and pray that it never ends
while you run out and tell little secrets to all your friends
they promise they won't tell but they ring like a old church bell
next thing you know everybody in the whole world knows
and so love glows.
Burnin' like a mountain in a hundred mile an hour wind
hotter than a Molotov cocktail with the fuse rammed in
Kilauea erupts in you, as your passion begins to spew
and ecstacy rocks your body 'till the lava flows
and so love glows.

My Blue Guitar
Written By: Michael Kelly
My Blue Guitar
cries sometimes
wakes me in the middle of the night.
My Blue Guitar
sighs sometimes
while telling me of things that don't seem right.
in this world of desperation fed with misery and pain
with many people movin' in some direction south of sane
and somewhere between all the cuts and scars
lie the tales of My Blue Guitar.
My Blue Guitar
spies sometimes
takes me places where I shouldn't be
My Blue Guitar
has eyes sometimes
shows me things no one should have to see
terror in the minds of all from here to Mozambique
wasted lives flowing down some nameless bloody street
and somewhere between the shadows and the dark
lie the tales from My Blue Guitar.
Haunting tunes and melodies
go on from night to day
endless dreams of suffering
with a million notes to play
pounding in the middle of my heart
but somehow, I forgive My Blue Guitar.
My Blue Guitar
dies sometimes
listening to the children as they cry
My Blue Guitar
flies sometimes
looking for the angels in the night
but I guess they lost their hope in us and simply flew away
maybe they'll return and take us all with them someday
and somwhere between the heavens and the stars
lie the tales from My Blue Guitar.
Oh, won't you listen to My Blue Guitar?

Merry Christmas Me
Written By: Michael Kelly
Merry Christmas Mornin'!
Merry Christmas Night!
Merry Christmas everyone
holding someone tight
and Merry Christmas, baby
wherever you may be
Merry Christmas, Christmas Tree!
Merry Christmas Me!
I hope that you are happy
and full of Christmas cheer
I hope that all is well for you
so you'll not shed a tear
and I hope this Christmas mornin'
you'll stop and think of me
Merry Christmas, baby
wherever you may be.
Merry Christmas Mornin'!
Merry Christmas Night!
Merry Christmas everyone
holding someone tight
and Merry Christmas, baby
wherever you may be
Merry Christmas, Christmas Tree!
Merry Christmas Me!

Heartless City
Written By: Michael Kelly
Life is tough in Heartless City
with shadows risin' up to guard the walls
it gets rough in Heartless City
waitin' on a cool rain that never falls
and there's no doors in Heartless City
but silver keys lie all around
most be the whores from Heartless City
that keep good souls from gettin' where they're bound.
They sell dreams in Heartless City
but memories are never allowed
the wretched schemes in Heartless City
keep you pinned beneath the darkest cloud
and time runs cheap in Heartless City
but you can't count the hours anyway
the climb is steap in Heartless City
but you fall back where night can't find the day.
In Heartless City you can stand up to the demons
try to join with them and if they let you in
you may find yourself infected with a challenge
where you can take the prize but never win.
You've got a name in Heartless City
but Lucifer will never speak to you
you've lost your shame in Heartless City
and he knows he can't do the things you do
so you get lost in Heartless City
like falling in a worn out wishing well
yeah, you get lost in Heartless City
you get lost while lookin' for yourself.

My Room
Written By: Michael Kelly
My girlfriend says I'm out of tune
sittin' back up here in my room
tryin' to run my fingers through her hair
but she don't want me to
she says that I'm no longer cool
and she won't be comin' back up here to my room.
My father says I'm not a star
he took away my new guitar
and ran it down in the driveway with his car
now I'm stuck up here
pacin' back and forth in fear
'cause he said that he'd be back to check my room.
Oh help me someone won't you help me please
I'd get out of here if I could get the keys
'cause I heard them talk outside my room
they said that I'd be surely doomed
listening to the silence in my room.
My mother says that I'm no good
I never listen when I should
and I won't be gettin' out of here too soon
but I hear her cry a lot
while telling me of what I'm not
and she says that I can just rot here in my room.
Oh help me someone won't you help me please
I'd get out of here if I could get the keys
'cause I heard them talk outside my room
they said that I'd be surely doomed
listening to the silence in my room.

Glory Daze
Written By: Michael Kelly
I saw a spirit Indian ride across the sky
I watched him in his spectacle
and swore I saw him cry
with all the years of agony bottled up inside
for all the young brave warriors
that once shared in his pride
and his hands were full of messages
his heart was wrenched in pain
and I watched him shed his angry blood
and drench the clouds with rain
for the spirit chief was mighty
and he had some hell to raise
in his time of gathering
in his Glory Daze.
The soldiers rode out from the fort
four hundred rode abreast
they galloped up the mountain side
and when they reached the crest
the captain drew his sabre high
and ordered to his men
aim your rifles to the sky and bring this to an end
and they fired with a vengeance, they fired every round
every bullet found it's mark
but they couldn't bring him down
for the spirit chief was mighty
and he had some hell to raise
in his time of gathering
in his Glory Daze.
And he pulled with all his power and stretched his silver bow
fired a flaming arrow and set the clouds aglow
and the boiling blood came pouring down
upon them all below, melting all existence of all they used to know
and they felt the bloody torture in every warriors pain
then and for forever, everyday would be the same
for the spirit chief inflicted them with every drop he bled
and then let out his war cry as he turned their skin to red
then he rode off on his pony, the master of the day
and four hundred spirit indians followed him away
for the spirit chief was mighty
and he had some hell to raise
in his time of gathering
in his Glory Daze.
