"Blues with a twist!"

I was unsure what to expect from the former Slick Pelt Guitarist. This certainly exceeds my expectations. This is Blues with a little Rock and a little Roll. Strong Vocals and stunning guitar playing. There is a great choice of cover versions on this album such as 29 Ways and Walking the Dog. However it is Michael Louis' own compositions that really shine. 'What Comes Around', 'Again' and the stunning 'The Roll Up' really shine. Backed up by a great rhythm section, this album smokes. If you only purchase one album by an unknown guitarist with bags of talent this year, make it this one. You will not be disappointed. Nigel Tolley ( BB PRESS Rotherham, England) - BB PRESS

"Vintage Guitar Mag. Oct. 04 Review of "The Roll Up" MMM Records"

Michael Louis and his band immediately strike you as a batch of guys you'd like to catch in the bar.
Order yourself a few beers, and chances are, if this CD is any indication, you'd be dancing up a storm for a large portion of the evening. Michael's from New York and shows an amazing facility, with
lots of different styles of rock and roll and the blues. One minute he's funky ("What Comes Around"), the next minute he's serving up minor-key blues with heavily tremeloed guitar ("Sad Sad Story), then he's sounding like he owes a whole lot of debt to Billy Gibbons and the boys("Junker Blues and "Dream of You").
Michael's guitar work marks the way
for most of these songs. Whether
it's a staright ahead boogie, a nice shuffle. or funky-rock, Michael's there to propel the song along. Check out the snaky fiqure that runs through "My Gal Kangaroo".
The title of the instrumental "Jam"
is right to the point, and that's
exactly what the fellas do, with Michael's double - stops and bends helping the shuffle move on down the road. "29 Ways" has fine wah work in the middle of a wonderful
soul treatment of a classic song.
Louis voice is nothing special, but has that quality that immediately
makes you like him. Throaty, with lots of growling, and very soulful.
It's nice to hear a guy and his band roll lots of influences into one, and do it well. That's exactly what happens here. That weird Southern
"thing" so many musicians have appears to have snuck north and seeped into Michael's soul. A fine piece of workingman's rock.

Bio

Guitarist/Singer, Michael Louis was born in NYC and raised in Brooklyn, NY and still lives there. Growing up on the streets of the New York City area had a profound effect on his music. His musical style is also influenced from the south through blues, jazz, funk, soul, rhythm and all its offshoots that were born there. On his new album "THE ROLL UP," you hear the tough funk in Willie Dixon’s "29 Ways," blues/soul in "Sad, Sad Story," the Allmans style jamming on "The Roll Up," the heavy rock of "Bad Things," the New Orleans pop blues of "Junker Blues"(a tribute to one of his favorite spots in the world, New Orleans & also to its writer, "Champion" Jack Dupree). The CD with 14 songs in all was released Fall 2004. His band includes: Frank Diorio/Drums and Andrei Sebastian/Bass. Frank’s most recent gigs have been with Felicia Collins (David Letterman Band) & Phoebe Snow. Andrei is a great up and coming bass player who understands the fatback style of playing his instrument. Michael has played with members of the Jimmy Vivino Band and the Jerry Vivino Band (the Max Weinberg 7/Conan O’ Brien). Michael is also well known with his rockabilly band "SLICK PELT." They have 2 CDs out on his own label, MMM Records. Slick Pelt has toured the south, mid-west and up & down the East Coast and have opened for: Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, The Blasters, Gov’t Mule, George Clinton & P Funk, Koko Taylor, Robert Gordon and even Randy Quaid (& the Sharks). Michael Louis (Band) has performed in St. Barts, Florida, Philadelphia and performs regularly all over the NY Tri-State area. In March 2005, Michael and his band performed five shows in Puerto Rico. They were a great success. His latest CD & live performances are receiving fantastic reviews.
