When you look at Michael Mallinson's Myspace page, it states plain and clear that this 17 year old is Indie / Soul. Indie and Soul? Is that possible.
Actually, yes it is! Had he found his way through to the light via a singing contest, they would definitely have him crooning, bratting and souling his way into the final. In the natural world, though, a bouncy indie sound permeates, playing host to Michael's incredible voice.
'Pick Up The Pieces' bobs along with snappy acoustic guitar and a punchy beat. It's an up-beat lighthouse that's bang up to date (or even slightly
ahead) sounding a bit like Plain White Ts, except for the voice.
The soulful element is even more apparent in 'Too Late', with its 'That's Just The Way It Is' piano and shuffle beat. You simply wouldn't expect such a warm and mature voice from someone so young and it's amazingly genuine and sincere.

Booked into a recording studio for his sixteenth birthday present, Michael Mallinson cut his first demo of a song he had written 2 weeks before. Amazed at the maturity of his voice, the recording studio offered to support him in his development and placed a team of world-class musicians behind him.
By his seventeenth birthday, Michael had already written and recorded enough material to release his debut EP. In an explosive show on the 30th November 2007 at the Wardrobe nightclub, Leeds, Michael and the band wowed a small audience of a few hundred people.
Since then Michael has done a stream of radio interviews and gigs across the UK while also garnering interest from both the head of Colombia Records UK and the team of writers behind Paolo Nutini & Dido. Stunning record execs and gig goers with his fresh and soulful sound, Michael Mallinson is gaining a faithful following with his own blend of Indie Soul.
