"Belgium Review for Rootstime"

Translation Below:

(Oh how I love the music from Georgia… Atlanta and Macon these are the cities whose names sound like music to my ears.)

(A big part of my LP and CD collection is from the Southern States: like Allman Brothers or Wet Willie from Alabama with the fantastic Jimmie Hall.)

(I loved music from the Seventies, that Southern rock with bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker and the Capricorn label and all their lovely bands and I always kept loving it.)

(At the moment it seems there is a new area of that music heading our direction, that I really like.)

(In that respect there are the releases of the new label from Johnny Sandlin, Rockin Camel.)

Jimmy Hall startte "Renegades of Southern Rock" op en deze week kregen we weer een cd met heerlijke Southern rock uit Atlanta toegestuurd "I still Got My Guitar" heet het kleinood, en de man die ons op het hoesje trots zijn gitaar toont heet Michael Mann.

(Jimmy Hall got started “Renegades of Southen Rock” and this week we received another CD with beautiful Southern Rock from Atlanta. “I Still Got My Guitar” is the name of the piece and the man on the CD cover showing his guitar is called Michael Mann.)

(No, not that one, with Miami Vice this Michael has nothing to do {with that one}.)

(He delivers us the real, pure genuine Southern Rock on his strong debut album with strong Lynyrd Skynyrd influences.)

(Michael Mann has two strong trumps: his powerful voice which at moments revives Ronnie van Zandt, and his guitar from which he at one moment gets heavy Southern riffs and a bit later sensitive ballds with needful modest guitar playing.)

(One of these sensitive ballads is “My Faith In You”, a clever song that the Southern atmosphere breathes, the “Free Bird” of the 21st Century.)

(The title song however, a song in the same atmoshere, really caps everything and after listening to this song we can add a third Trump: Michael Mann is a great songwriter.)

"Highs And Lows" doet me onwillekeurig denken aan de muziek van Greg Allman en Marshall Tucker band.

(“Highs And Lows” involuntarily reminds me of the music of Greg Allman and Marshall Tucker band.)

De ballads dragen mijn voorkeur weg omdat ze zo sfeervol gebracht zijn, het ijzersterke "When I'm Alone" is daar nog maar eens een voorbeeld van.

(The ballads have my preference because they are performed full of atmosphere, the extremely strong “When I’m Alone” is a another perfect example.)

Het daarop volgende rockende "Where has the Good Gone" kon zo op een Lynyrd Skynyrd cd zonder dat het iemand zou opvallen, een sterke song toch.

(The following rocking song “Where has the Good Gone” could be very well from a Lynyrd Skynyrd CD without anybody noticing it, a strong song.)

Stay for long, Mr.Mann, My Faith's In You!

(Closing song “I’m not Staying Long” is again another one in the line of beautiful ballads, the cherry on the cake as it is called. Let’s hope that he is not serious about that last one.
Stay for long, Mr.Mann, My Faith's In You!) - www.rootstime.be

Bio

From pastime to profession, but forever a passion, music has always been a calling for Michael Mann, a singer/songwriter/guitarist from Atlanta, Georgia. Deeply rooted in the south, Michael overpowers you with his electrifying mix of hard-driving southern rock and soulful blues. You can almost feel his heart beat in every expressive note and every soulful word on his debut album, I Still Got My Guitar.

Years ago, Michael asked a roommate to teach him a few chords on the guitar. It wasn’t long before he was off to buy his own guitar and he has been playing ever since. Michael recalls, “I got a credit card in the mail and took it straight to the music store to buy my first guitar. Afterward, the card had a little left, so I finished it off buying beer to celebrate…so much for the emergency credit card.”

Michael has played in various bands over the years, performed in regional singing showcases and composed music for a documentary movie. However, for years he limited his involvement in music to a hobby and outlet for expression while maintaining a regular day job to pay the bills. Unable to deny his passion any longer, Michael finally gave up the monotonous and meaningless rat-race to pursue music full time. Since then, Michael has completed and released his debut album and has been packing in as many live shows as humanly possible, including over 60 shows in three months of performing in Southeast Asia.

In November 2008, his first single was released for airplay in the US, "My Faith's In You". To date, it has been added to 25 stations nationwide and Michael was ranked 28th on the New Music Weekly Top 40 Chart and 3rd on the Top 40's "Up and Coming" Chart. Michael is also enjoying airplay of several of his singles from his debut CD "I Still Got My Guitar" on European radio.
