Maybe next year boys.... ;-) - MICHAEL MAY

"Sounds/Detroit Blues Society"

Michael May and The Messarounds are a band that just dont - mess around. One of the standout Cd's of the year, "Bring On The Heat!" puts May in forefront of the most astounding harpers in the region. A fan of the Sonny Boys and the Walters, he has a big fat tone. The opener "Warming Up" is as impressive as any harp blowout this writer has heard. The Messarounds cover a couple of Ray Charles tunes, Bo Diddley, Sonny Boy II, Muddy, William Clarke, Memphis Slim and even John Popper. None of these are covers in the strictest sense, though. These are first rate interpretations. May is as muscular in the vocal department as he is on that exquisite harp, guitarist Pete Bullard is equally impressive throughout (check his stretch on "I've Got News For You"), and the rhythm team of bassist Cal Stone and drummer Brian Deming are rock steady. Deming's "Local Voodoo Man" is deep in the goo and May's own "She's So Sweet" indicates strong songwriting that would serve future discs well if developed. The harp is up front for the 12 superb performances offered here, though the band didn't just come along for the ride. They're impressive to a man. Still, this is a harp fronted band and the front man is one of the finest to emerge from the motor city in a long while. Highly recommended!! - Mark E. Gallo

"Blues Source Review"

Michael May & the Messarounds - Bring On The Heat
Self-released, 2007

Detroit native Michael May was a guitar player in high school until he attended a Blues Traveler concert and was mesmerized by the harp work of John Popper. Since then he’s concentrated on learning all he can about the instrument and different styles.

On this, his third release, Michael May mixes covers with originals with his style leaning towards West Coast Jump Blues. Besides his harp work and vocals, Michael is backed by Pete Bullard on guitar, Cal Stone on bass and Brian Deming on drums. What immediately stands out is the bands understanding of jump music and each part of it as it pertains to them individually and as a whole. The over all sound here is nothing short of fun. It’s part jazz, part blues but each compliments each other without fighting for dominance.

Opening up with the May penned instrumental Warming Up, the band sets the tone for the CD. On the Ray Charles song I’ve Got News for You, its guitarist Pete Bullard that steals the spotlight with his excellent fretwork. Drummer Brian Demming penned the funky track Local Voodoo Man which focuses on May’s harp talents.

THE BLUESY SIDE OF JAZZ & THE JAZZY SIDE OF BLUES.

This band has solidified their status as one of the Motor City's premiere acts.

A hard working band; playing clubs, casinos and festivals abroad. In 2007 MM&M were finalists in the ICBS Blues Challenge. Jump, Swing, Blues, Jazz, R&B, New Orleans, Country, Latin and Rock. These guys do it all!!

MICHAEL MAY (Harmonica/Vocal) began his playing on guitar while in high school, but soon picked up the harmonica after being awe struck by John Popper of Blues Traveler. While still in college, he nurtured his
interest by attending concerts and clubs, following harmonica driven bands and soaking up all the impressions he
could. He soon found himself under the tutelage of Dave Morris from the Ultrasonics. After an acoustic duo
stint of 18 months and some gigs with other bands Mike to infused his talents w/others and formed Blue Infusion in November 2000, which later morfed into The Messarounds in late 2005.

JASON BONE (Guitar/Vocal)
Studied the old school way for some time. Let me tell you, it shows.
This cat has got the STUFF!  His playing lends appropriate tone and phrasing to each tune.

BRIAN DEMING (Drums) A man who studies his craft intensely can play with the best of them.
Brian definitely fits. What a strong player. Swings, shuffles and dont forget his brush work.
WATCH OUT!!! - GROOVIN' AT IT'S BEST
What else can I say..Ladies and Gentlemen..Mr. Brian Deming on the drums.....

CAL STONE (Upright Bass/Electric Bass)
Cal has played with the best there is. Starting out on Guitar, he then focused his love to the upright and fender bass.
His groovin bass lines are definitely something to hear.
