Biography

The cast of characters and images that Chicago singer/songwriter Michael McDermott weaves into each song sets him apart from the average folk/rock artist. Critics have compared his talents equal to that of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. His stories never fail to shine light on our own triumphs, insecurities and hopes for redemption.
A prolific writer, McDermott has released 13 albums, both on major record labels and independently. His new project “Noise From Words,” will be released this August.
His latest release, “Ashes,” rose to number 1 on XM Radios Nude Cafe Music Review and has been in the TOP 25 since its release. Two singles, “Everything I Got,” and “Dance with Me,” have become staples on WXRT (Chicago), WXPN (Philly) and a third, “Gonna be Good,” is a mainstay on XM Radios Nude Cafe.
His work has received critical acclaim from New York Times, L.A. Times, Hollywood Reporter, Rolling Stone, The Chicago Tribune and Stephen King (yes, the writer).
Two tracks from his 2000 release “Last Chance Lounge” were featured in the New Line film “Knockaround Guys.”
McDermott has shared the stage with countless national artists including Van Morrison, The Wallflowers, Cracker, 10,000 Maniacs and The Cowboy Junkies. He’s appeared on MTV, World Cafe, Acoustic Cafe and Studio C.
