I am a solo performer with original songs and interpretations of other works that grab my ears. I am fortunate to have occasional accompaniment by excellent musicians.

Biography

My first band, The Little Flowers, was the house band at the Niteowl in the Village in the early 60's. We blazed and then imploded and in the wake I joined a friend in the hype band, the Gurus. A lot of promo, but... Jerry Brand asked me to put together a backup trio for Jim and Jean. We played a Murry the K show at the RKO Fox in NYC with Cream, The Who, Wilson Pickett, Mitch Rider. etc (4 shows a day for over a week). From there we went on tour with the Beach Boys as the opening act and at the end of the tour, I moved to LA to be produced by Dennis Wilson and then by Bruce Langhorne. Dennis and I eventually returned to the studio and cut 2 songs with members of Greg Allman's band including the unsung guitar hero Tippy Armstrong (prior to the Allman Bros) but by then I'd had it with the business and came back East. Since then I've kept a foot in the music spending most of my time raising our family with my wife Lisa. Now I'm back in the studio with Jim Salamone @ Cambridge Sound in Newtown, Pa., A great place with great ears.

Lyrics

Mesmerizing Sun

Written By: Michael Orrell

Well the sun is mesmerizing as it burns away the dew,
the birds are up and singing and I think of you.
The days are like a waterfall, dropping from the dawn
they flow to life, they sparkle and then they're gone.

Well you know I could be miserable if I really wanted to,
to call up that bad luck ain't so hard to do.
But the morning sun is shining and the weather feels so fine,
are the mountains quite that lovely or is it that I'm blind?

And you, who wander by this way
may the songs that feed your heart
fill up your waking day

Well I've had it with that devil's dream that coils around my soul
and I'm tired of feeling guilty about mistakes of old.
I hope your life is taking you to where you want to be
and in that quiet moment save a thought for me

And you, who wander by this way,
may the songs that feed your heart
fill up your waking day.

A Fools Lament

Written By: Michael Orrell

Well a fool and his honey soon parted.
He begged baby, I do want you so.
But if he'd been smart, right from the start
he wouldn't have such a wrong way to go.

Don't you know, don't you know that I want you.
Don't you know, don't you know that I care.
But oh when she needed that man in her life
don't you know that he just was not there.

She was lost in the love of the one man
that she thought could ease all her pain.
But he pulled her up short, said be a good sport,
and rolled off to his own world again.

Well the days, they went on and he wondered
what brought my life down so low.
All of my happiness, squandered and lost,
on a road that had nowhere to go.

So a fool and his honey soon parted.
He begged baby, I do want you so.
But if he'd been smart, right from the start
he wouldn't have such a wrong way to go.
