Biography

Michael Ryther was born in San Francisco to two teachers. He picked up the guitar as a way to be different from his twin brother who became a classical violinist. After honing his songwriting craft and playing his unique brand of alt folk in numerous coffee shops, Michael recorded his debut CD with producer Chuck Alvarez. Amid critical accolades, his self titled album was a top seller for CD Baby.

Since then Michael's following has grown, playing shows in such well regarded San Francisco and Los Angeles clubs as The Whiskey, The Rainbow Room, Genghis Cohen, El Cid, The Knitting Factory, and The Sunset Room. He and his brother joined forces and toured Europe. His song "Love of My Life" was featured in the independent short film "Harlequin".

Michael also writes catchy can't get them out of your head songs for children. He has performed in Los Angeles schools, public and private, entertaining hundreds of students and educating them about ways to be environmental heroes. He is currently recording an environmental album for kids.

Lyrics

Is Anybody Out There?

Written By: Michael Ryther

Chorus:
Is anybody out there
Is anybody out there
Is anybody out there in outer space
We’re having a party on planet Earth
And wondered if you’d like to come

Now often I’ve looked up at bright shiny stars
And wondered if there was a planet like ours
A planet where life can dance to a beat
With people and creatures I’d like to meet

Chorus

You’ll find us in the galaxy called Milky Way
Shaped like a spiral most scientists say
We’re third from the sun that’s yellow and bright
A blue and green marble jumpin’ with life

Chorus

If you’re a nice ET
Just RSVP and come
If you don’t want to eat me and just want to meet me then come

I do not care if you have eight eyes
Suction cupped tentacles would be no surprise
Everyone comes in all shapes and sizes
So let’s get together and celebrate life

Chorus

Organic

Written By: Michael Ryther

Chorus:
(It’s time to eat!…..Good food!)
What you what you got for lunch today
Everyone keeps askin they’re all up in my face
What you what you got for lunch today
Everyone keeps askin and this is what I say

No need to panic
All my food’s organic
Everybody wants some
Cause its fresh and awesome
But I got enough, enough to go around
Nutritious and delicious and straight out the ground
Farmers can testify
There ain’t no pesticides
And once my friends try it
They’re like where’d you buy it?
Food this fresh that tastes so good
Where’s the farmer’s market goin’ on in the hood?

Chorus

I got all kinds of treats
Like super sweet beets
They’re lickin their chops at my savory meats
I know that they’re starin’
They wonder if I’m sharing
But then there comes a time when a kid’s gotta eat!

But then it never fails
Like a hammer hits a nail
Just when I’m blissin
Someone starts a dissin
Clowns come around looking all suspicious
And say something whack like “Can healthy be delicious?”
So that’s when I do it
Take a bite and chew it
And that’s when it happens
I even stop my rappin’

Its like an MMMMM
And an MMMM
I’m transported to this place
Like A paradise of taste
Like me and the Earth are talking face to face
And then I become one with the planet
And all this because all my foods organic

Chorus

Kids of the Earth

Written By: Michael Ryther

Grownups can step aside we’ve come to save the day
We have come to clean the mess that’s been handed down our way
We don’t fear the future of the planet that we’re on
We have come to prove all of the dooms-dayers wrong

Chorus:
We’re the kids of the earth
We’re the kids of the earth
We have come to save the world
We’re the kids of the earth

Children of the world unite and take your rightful place
We must shine the light for those who’ve lost their way
We are the protectors of the planet that we’re on
We’re the superheroes and we’ve come to right the wrong

Chorus

We have come to teach the world a brand new song
We hope you’ll sing along
We have come to tell you that you’re one of us
Put on your capes we fly today, cause…

Chorus

In This Together

Written By: Michael Ryther

From Everest to the ocean
Every single motion
Is felt by everyone, everywhere

Every single action starts a chain reaction
So take upon your path with some care

Chorus:
We are all in this together
We are all in this together
We've got to come together

From regions to religions
None are true divisions
What is done to one is done to all

This planet is our mother
We’re sisters and we’re brothers
From the strongest ones among us to the small

Chorus

If every human being can push away their pride
Imagine what can happen if we all decide

Chorus

From Everest to the ocean
Every single motion
Is felt by everyone, everywhere

Why Did I Swallow that Seed?

Written By: Michael Ryther

With a crunch and a crackle I bit into an apple
And accidentally
Swallowed a seed,
Now there is a tree growing inside of me

There’s a tree growing inside of me
There’s a tree growing inside of me
Why oh why oh why oh why
Why did I swallow that seed?

I was coughin up leaves
My face was turnin green
So I asked a doctor’s advice
He said he thought I oughter
Drink lots of water
And plant myself somewhere outside

Chorus

I don’t mean sound melodramatic
Don’t mean to get you down with a tragic
Tale and dark undertones
But here I am a living example
Of what can happen and now there’s ample
Proof you should not try this at home

Chorus

With apples out my ears
It’s time to face my fears
And bid the world goodbye
One final wish
Get everyone a dish
And serve up some sweet apple pie.

Chorus

We're Gonna Plant a Tree

Written By: Michael Ryther

Grab your shovel and your gloves
We’re gonna do somethin you love
Its good for the earth and for what its worth we’re gonna have fun

Let’s pick our favorite spot
Have you guessed what I got?
It may look little
But I know that it’ll
grow a lot!

We’re gonna plant a tree
Just for you and me
We’re gonna plant a tree
Just for you and me
We’re gonna plant that tree
For you and me

Dirt starts flying all around
As we’re breaking new ground
We’re a muddy mess,
Don’t look our best
but we’re laughing out loud

I give the roots a shake
I love the face you make
We grab hold of the trunk
And w. one little plunk
we drop it on down…

Chorus

Don’t it make you feel good (4x)

Chorus

Reduce, Recycle and Re-use

Written By: Michael Ryther

Hello my name is planet Earth
I’m the one that you stand on
And if you jump into the air
I’m the one that you land on

I’m not feeling very well
All your trash makes me ill
You’ve got to think before you throw away

Chorus:
Reduce, recycle and reuse
Do it with everything you use
Reduce, recycle and reuse
Everybody go and spread the news
Reduce recycle and reuse!

Hello my name is planet Earth
I give you all the food you eat
I give you space to run around
I give you all the air you breath

But I’m not feeling very well
All your trash makes me ill
You’ve got to think before you throw away

Chorus

Reduce Recycle and Reuse
Everybody go and spread the news
Reduce Recycle and Reuse!

And if you care for me I will always be there
If you care for me I will always be there
If you care for me I will always be there
For you!

Gimme a Car That Runs On Sunshine

Written By: Michael Ryther

The automobile and American dream
Seem to go together like ice and cream
But what have we gotten with gasoline -
Dirty air and a planet overheating!

Chorus:
So gimme a car that runs on sunshine
Everybody knows its about time
Gimme a car that runs on sunshine
And we’ll truly be the land of the free

Everybody should see this place
Such a beautiful open space
Why would anyone want to spoil
A polar bear’s home for a little oil?

Chorus

See the young men off to war
What are they fightin’ for?
Is it just for oil under foreign soil
We’ve got to say no more!
Say no more…

Chorus

Oil Is Obsolete (A Song From The Future)

Written By: Michael Ryther

The day oil died we had to decide if the future was bright or crude
Offshore drillin' oil was spillin' and the BP chief was rude
April 2-0 started that slow decline in oil's fortune
The rig explodes our trust erodes and their collars started scorchin'
Could they take the heat? No, they beat a path back to their yachts
With Hayward cryin' and the rest of them lyin' 'bout how much oil was lost
So we said, "No more will you blacken our shore your oily days are over!"
And we looked around and then we found we'd neglected wind and solar
It took disaster to get us there faster but the day had come at last
When the black tar fuel just ain't cool and it represents the past

Oil is Obsolete! (That's the word on the street)
Oil is Obsolete! (That's the word on the street)

It's like dial up like VHS
Like the Backstreet Boys, eight tracks and cassettes
It's like feathered hair or baggy jeans
What you used to wear in your mixed up teens
Kinda' like that show with Mr. T
We saw something in it that now we don't see
What were we thinkin' what were we drinkin'
Didn't we see this rig was sinkin'?
Now that we look back it's elementary
Oil should be put back into last century

Oil is Obsolete! (That's the word on the street)
Oil is Obsolete! (That's the word on the street)

Is everybody ready for something new?
Don't you know the days of oil are through?
If you want to see a brand new day
You know it's up to you to lead the way

That's what I said this dinosaur's dead we're tired of the game
Called "rape the lands then wash your hands and pass off all the blame"
And we saw it was doable switched to renewable we finally found the will
It's the good that came out of the rig's flame out and that nasty spill
But it took some reflection to change our direction that spill really rung some bells
It wasn't just BP it was you and me fillin' our tanks with their wells
So we looked in the mirror and we saw it all clearer we knew it was time to go green
On the day oil died the oil guys lied but that's what got us to sing

Oil is Obsolete! (That's the word on the street)
Oil is Obsolete! (That's the word on the street)
