Bio

After performing some of his original songs for the first time at Chapel Hill’s now defunct Skylight Exchange, this North Carolina born singer-songwriter decided to take the uncertain path of a troubadour. So as some poet-musicians often do, he followed his passion towards the banks of the Cumberland River.

When asked to detail his reasons for making music, he says, “My goal is write story-driven songs that are often influenced by the dark side of Americana, supported by acoustic melodies that convey troubled sentiments, and to perform each song with a delivery capable of convincing the listener that each tale has been a difficult reality for someone, somewhere.”

With elements of bluegrass and country, his songwriting style may have his fans thinking he is influenced by bluegrass murder balladeers, Texas country singer-songwriters, and an inescapable urge to share stories of longing, loss, rambling, and revenge.

Michael’s debut album, Tattered Map, has been independently released on the Skeptic Ear™ label. It was co-produced by Daniel Scobey (Anderson East, The Vespers), with recording appearances by Travis Book (The Infamous Stringdusters) and Zane Williams. The universal theme of the project is one of worried souls on the move – a soundtrack for the restless.

While continuing to perform at some of Nashville’s most notable songwriter venues (Bluebird Cafe, Douglas Corner, Commodore Grill), Michael also travels throughout the Southeast, sharing his own brand of Americana with anyone who will listen. And that is where you will likely find him, making his way along some asphalt path, guided by a Tattered Map.
