Michal Lotan - Evil Side

Michal Lotan is an Israeli singer/songwriter whose voice reminds me of a cross between the melodic mumbling of Rickie Lee Jones and the jazz/blues inflections of Phoebe Snow. With just her voice and guitar, she bears an course exhibiting both impressive virtuosity and high spirited exuberance.
The 30 minute demo EP Evil Side is available from The Internet Archive’s Open Source Audio. It has 9 tracks, all being very enjoyable and worth a listen. I find her voice is be quite remarkable. I don’t know if she would agree with the classification of jazz but it is no doubt to me that she is clearly influenced by other jazz singers and jazz-influenced pop vocalists. She tends to be most comfortable on upbeat tunes like “Wine” and the opening showcase “Sounds” but I really like the sexy swagger she shows on “I Feel That You need Me” and “Baby Bruised”. This is an impressive debut which I hope is followed by a full album. - blog

Lotan does a sweet combination between Jazz and Folk. There’s no other words that come to mind, while I am sitting here trying to describe her voice, it’s just sweet. Such a short and trivial word, but yet so accurate. If ’sweet’ was created to describe only one thing, it would be Michal’s voice. - blug

i was born in Sinai,back when it was used to belong to Israel.
a child of the desert,walking barefoot and free.
my teenage years... in the city with the cars and the noise and the excitement and creativity in the air...
i guess that's why i always feel i posses a constant Battle between the my two sides - the desert and the city...

i have been singing most of my life

i have been a solo artist most of my life
keeping the spotlight all to myself indulging in the solitude and freedom of the stage,
recording the album was a treat and a discovery of the richness that could be obtained only when i allow other people into my music,my island.
the album was produced by Adam shafflan
one of the most prominent bass players\pruducer in Israeli alternative scene
and featuring some of the finest studio musicians in Israel
i have performed extensively in Israel and overseas
was invited to perform in club Nebraska in Moscow
performed in Australia and new zealand
took part for 2 years now in one of Israel's largest most successful alternative music festival "indinegev"
which takes place in the desert and is inspired by the Black Rock Desert's burning man.
at the moment i have got my band up and running
and we are ready to hit the road!!!
