Both a gifted songwriter and vocalist, Michelle was born in the inner city of Toronto, to Portuguese parents. Michelle’s began to develop her musical talents at the tender age of age six, studying traditional Portuguese and Latin music. It wasn’t long before her passion for music had her mimicking her idols Gloria Estefan and Teena Marie. By thirteen, Michelle was performing at local Portuguese festivals around Ontario and on multi-cultural radio, destined to become a Latin sensation. In 1999 Michelle released her first solo album, sung in Portuguese, “Para Sempre Nos Mues Sonhos” and became an instant celebrity in the Portuguese community throughout Toronto.

Michelle’s popularity only intensified when she accepted an offer from “The Booking House” to impersonate Jennifer Lopez on stage. Her fans were ecstatic to see her performing live, both singing and dancing on an international stage. She was the featured performer in such places as Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, Dubai, the United States of America and in Canada.

When she wasn’t touring, Michelle studied voice and theory at the Royal Conservatory of Music and continued to develop her song writing, in a wide range of musical genres. Now teamed with experienced songwriters and musicians, Michelle has created her own signature mix of Latin influenced Pop/R&B music, that pays homage to her vibrant, colorful influences.

Michelle Tavares’ sophomore English album consists of sultry melodies with lyrics that come from her soul. “Just Michelle” stands to leave an irrefutable mark on the music industry, in a field all it’s own.
