Bio

Michelle Willson has the kind of voice you don't hear very often anymore.
Soulful, intense, powerful, she has been compared to musical icons Dinah Washington, Bessie Smith, Tina Turner, Koko Taylor and Janis Joplin.
Michelle has a warm, engaging, energetic and passionate performance style, and is also extremely funny and articulate.
The members of the group have been playing together for over a decade, and have a solid, tight knit band that only comes w/ years of real world on the road experience.
What sets this group apart is that they never let their incredible skill level get in the way of laying down a good time groove. They've got the serious chops and enough sense and taste not to over use 'em.
The amount of sassy goodwill and love flowing back and forth between the band members and out into the audience at any EGFO gig is enough to make you go off your anti-depressant meds.
Michelle and the group won the Blues Foundation's international blues talent competition in Memphis in 1993. Michelle was then signed to a multi record contract by Rounder records subsidiary label Bullseye Blues and has released 4 critically acclaimed, award winning albums.
In 2002, "Wake up Call", Michelle's 4th cd for Rounder records won best blues record at the Boston Music Awards.
Michelle Willson has been nominated for a Handy Award alongside Etta James.
In 2004, Michelle toured Israel with Ronnie Peterson and his blues band.
For the last several years, Michelle has hosted a weekly rhythm and blues radio program, as well as a weekly jazz program on WICN, a public radio station in Worcester, MA (http://www.wicn.org).
Michelle and the group were recently flown out to the midwest to play at a small private party for some long time fans.
Currently, Michelle is writing new material, along with Scott Shetler and Mike Williams, in preparation for a new recording, scheduled to be completed and released in 2008.Michelle Willson and the Evil Gal Festival Orchestra are often hired as the jazz act at blues festivals and the blues act at jazz festivals. Nobody knows why.
We have played at venues, festivals, parties, campgrounds, weddings and various interesting situations in ( at last count )17 different countries.
