December 2005
CD REVIEW by Paul V. Griffith
w/The Nashville Scene
MICKI FUHRMAN
Writer:Michael Garvin/Micki Fuhrman; Producer: Ron Oates; Great Planet (track)
—"Micki Fuhrman has the voice of an angel, but don’t let that fool you. Whether she’s channeling Opry greats like Jeannie Seely or scorching you with a Joe Tex shuffle, this angel (and former Louisiana Hayride star) is grounded in Southern soul and the earthbound wisdom of love lost and gained."

MICKI FUHRMAN/You’re My Undoing
Writer:Michael Garvin/Micki Fuhrman; Producer: Ron Oates; Great Planet (track)
—Fuhrman was a Louisiana Hayride performer in the 1970s and an MCA Records artist in the 1980s. Her return to disc, Back Porch Torch, ranges through the country-rock of “A Mile a Minute,” the balladry of “I Know Too Much” and this R&B flavored track. A welcome comeback.

Bio

Louisiana-bred Micki Fuhrman comes by her chops honestly. She grew up in a home with a perpetual soundtrack of classic country including Ray Charles, Jim Reeves and Tammy Wynette. By the age of seven she was singing in her grandmother's rural church...at thirteen she joined a contemporary Christian band and by fifteen was headlining Shreveport's venerable "Louisiana Hayride." She recorded for MCA and Word Records, becoming one of the earliest artists to span both secular and Christian markets. Micki garnered guest spots on "The Grand Ole Opry" and toured with several major artists.

As a songwriter, Micki has had several songs recorded by other artists. "Pink Flamingos" appeared on Tracy Byrd's double platinum-selling "No Ordinary Man" album.

She released "Back Porch Torch" in 2005, her first studio project since her 1980's stint on MCA. All are original tunes but for a passionate remake of Joe Tex's "I Wanna Do Everything for You." The music reads like a Louisiana road map. Micki takes you to small town gas stations and big city jazz clubs, roadside churches and cold prison cells, late night laundramats and Civil War cottonfields. Her voice slides from swanky to swampy in one breathless heartbeat.
