Bio

Texas native and cowboy at heart, although not evident in his music, Mick Kelleher was born in the Lonestar States' City of Dallas. At the early age of 5, Mick was forced into his first musical experience of mandatory piano lessons once a week, also not evident in his music. Much less painstakingly, first memories of music came from his parentÂ’s stereo system in the form of Julio Iglesias and Harry Belafonte, two artists which Mick still listens to today.

Growing older, at the age of 14, Mick moved to Virginia Beach, Va. A true blessing in disguise, this is where he was introduced to an environment where he would find much of his inspiration in his early songwriting endeavors some years later. Brothers, the beach community, and frequent nights of boozing with friends and females were all staple ingredients. They were good times had by all, something Mick constantly tries to relive.

Fast forwarding a couple of years, Mick picked up the guitar circa 1999 and then some years later in 2002 began his songwriting. This slow start of humming and strumming has turned into what now some have described as full on acoustic funk. Not to be deceived, this repertoire includes a variety of songs from a very mellow mood to a heavy free flow of lyrical arrangements accompanied by dominate guitar riffs. The ideas portrayed in his music are a mix of many things but more notably his love for the Spanish culture, spending summers in California, growing up back east, and lonely days in the great state of Texas.

Aiding in this, Mick moved full circle back to Texas in 2001, settling in at College. Here he was able to further focus on his music while establishing a dedicated fan base in the Bryan/College Station and Houston communities. With the late creation of the Ray Smith Project, a band created with Mick's current songs and those of other band members, it has helped expose this unique sound and style of music to all whom listen.

Look for Mick Kelleher in 2006 as he was recently featured on Midwest and Northeast Regional Television, Plum TV, and as he finishes his first demo, the Entertainment Me EP, while trying to catch the attention of others and undoubtedly rocking your face off at a live show.
