Biography

"I want to give people mood swings!" says Micky Shiloah, when asked what type of album he's creating. "Music can create and change a mood...I'd like for people to go through a whole range of emotions while listening to my music..." Sporting a subtle confidence on the outside with a creative fire on the inside, Micky Shiloah certainly stands out amongst his surroundings. As a native New Yorker, his music is heavily influenced by the fast-paced city life as well as the subtle taste of Long Island. “Am I a firecracker? Maybe." he laughs. “I'm a pretty laid-back person, but when I get on stage and perform, that fire comes out!"

That fire was fueled even more when Micky gained the attention of Sony BMG and Nickelodeon. The two companies partnered up to seek out talent for a new boy band, “Big Time Rush”, to be signed to the label and star in a new series for Nickelodeon. “It was an amazing experience”, says Micky. Working with top choreographers, acting coach Cynthia Bain as well as vocal coach/recording artist Mauli B., Micky went through many grueling rounds of singing, dancing and acting during the audition process. “It was literally called Boy Band boot camp! I loved every minute of it and I learned so much.” After the nationwide search, in addition to the two-month consecutive audition process, Micky was the top choice as the lead of the group and performed in 2 showcases for Sony BMG and Nickelodeon executives. “It was such a rush. I had all this nervous energy before the showcase, but as soon as I got on that stage, it felt like magic.” Ultimately, the executives at Nickelodeon decided they wanted to cast a younger lead for the role. “Of course I was disappointed, but I gained so much knowledge about the industry and worked with such great, talented people, I was even more inspired to continue on with my music career.” With the advice of Sony Music A&R Maria Egan, Micky set out to write, perform and create his own sound and style. “After that experience”, he says, “I definitely had a lot to write about!” And write he did. He performed his songs around New York City and Long Island in any venue he could find. This eventually led to him being invited as the featured performer at the annual Bronx Day Festival, hosted by Senator Pedro Espada, Jr., as well as a spot in a charity benefit concert which sponsored the American Cancer Society.

Sounds Like Life, the album Micky has been working on, takes you on a journey through a young man's eyes. "The songs I’ve written for this album definitely reflect me and who I am and have been as a person. But more importantly, I believe they reflect the lives of most young people who are transitioning into adulthood and trying to find themselves." He also pays special attention to one aspect of his songs: The melody. "I'm a sucker for a melody. Seriously, give me an amazing melody and I'm hooked. I start with a melody as the base and then build the rest of the song up from there.” Micky is keen to present a wide array of song selection, avoiding sounds that are too similar. "I hear some artists say that their album is eclectic, but it isn't. I hate it when all the songs sound alike. It's like ordering a meal without the side dish, a steak without the eggs...I like some variety on my plate!" Though he claims his album can fall into many genres, he does admit that it starts with his main genre, "Pop. That's where my base is. But I believe that pop music crosses a broad spectrum. I think it's easy to write a pop song--it's what you do with it next that makes it really interesting."

Wish I Knew

Written By: Micky Shiloah

Remember when we talked all through the night?
We talked about random things and life
Remember how I told you I would always be there for you?
Remember you were always there for me?
We could talk about just about anything
Now it seems that it’s all changed and I don’t know why

Why you see me in a
In a different light I
Wish I knew what caused you to change your mind

Chorus:
Was it me, did
Did I ruin it?
Did I make a mess of everything once again?
I didn’t mean it, didn’t mean to ruin it
I just wish I knew I wish I knew what I did

Remember how we didn’t even have a fight?
You never even told me that it wasn’t all right
Remember how I waited for hours, but you never showed up?
Remember when you told me you were having bad times?
And I was so stupid I believed all your lies
I couldn’t help it being around you made me feel alive

Now you see me in a
In a different light I
Wish I knew what caused us to change our lives

Chorus
I didn’t mean it, didn’t mean to ruin it
I just wish I knew I wish I knew what I did

What I did…

The Journey

Written By: Micky Shiloah

I follow life down a railroad track
Hoping to one day have to never look back
At the scared, uneasy the broke the big dreaming
I make mistakes and the water gets rough
And I’m on to the next because it’s never enough
And it’s a fight, living for what you believe in

I’ll take my chances on a west-bound airplane
Stand up and listen to that desert serenade
And it says

Chorus:
Come, come
What are you waiting for? (Ooh)
And it says come, come on already
Cause I won’t be here
For too long

It’s hard to make up for the things you lack
When you feel like nobody’s got your back
When you’re scared, uneasy you’re broke and still dreaming
And I can’t keep hoping it’ll find me first
When I’m looking for something that’ll quench my thirst
Get out, get wet, take it in and breathe it

We all take chances waiting for those winds of change
I swear I think I almost heard them call my name
And it’s calling

Chorus x2:
Come, come
What are you waiting for? (Ooh)
Cause it’s calling, come, come on already
Cause I won’t be here
For too long

Come, come , come, come
What are you waiting for? (Ooh)
Cause it’s calling, come
Try not to miss me
Cause I won’t be here
For too long

How You Got Me

Written By: Micky Shiloah

Tell me how’d it ever come to this
I never understood how you got me
Look at where we are together now
I never understood how you got me
I’ve got to try and come to terms with this
I never understood how you got me
Why did I do this to myself?
I never understood how you got me

If I said it once I said it twenty-five times
I just couldn’t wait to get you out of my life
I can’t understand why you keep sticking around
I don’t know what you are waiting for but you never back down
If I said it once I said it twenty-five times
I just couldn’t wait to get you out of my life
Check the clock and baby you will see that it’s time to go

Chorus:
Tell me how’d it ever come to this
I never understood how you got me
Why did I ever come around?
I never understood how you got me
How could I do this to myself?
I never understood how you got me
Tell me why’d I ever come around
I never understood how you got me

Smiling is making me tired
It was so much easier to hide behind it
We never suspect that we will end up blind
I guess you live you learn baby ain’t that life
(Repeat x1)

Chorus

Every time you come around
I get lost when I was found
Every time you look at me I die a little bit
Every time you come around
I get lost when I was found
I can’t do this anymore with you, no

Baby how’d it come to this
I never understood how you got me

The Encounter

Written By: Micky Shiloah

Saw you for the first time it was so brand new
Shining just like a star, but you had nothing to prove
You had nothing to prove
Saw you once, saw you twice and you looked my way
I was looking at you, but I had nothing to say
I had nothing to say

Chorus:
Baby if you meet somebody else tonight
I hope you remember my face
If you should fall in love with someone else tonight
I hope you don’t forget the way we used to be

I was so much happier when we were together
I could never imagine it could get any better
It couldn’t get any better
I used to know you better than I knew myself
You thought you knew me, but I turned into someone else
Into someone else

Chorus

Here we are
What a coincidence we should see each other here
How did we get to this place?
I hate that look on your face
I know you won’t take me back
I know you won’t take me back
I know you won’t take me back, but…

Pretty For You

Written By: Micky Shiloah

It's 4AM again
The clock strikes and
Boom you're ready to explode
I close my eyes pretend
I've been asleep and I've never been the wiser before

You do this every night
Every time we have a fight
I don't think I can take anymore
You look me in my face
and put me in my place
I can't do this anymore

You tell me
Sit still, look pretty
I'm lucky you're with me
You tell me
Sit still, look pretty
I'm lucky you're with me

Chorus:
But I'll sit pretty for for you
While you're out on the town
And I'm wondering where you go
And i'll sit pretty for you
'Cuz I care even though you don't..

Out with your girlfriends
I try to chime in and boom
You're ready to explode
You shut me up you said
"He's not that interested"
And carry on and leave me alone

You do this all the time
Every time I speak my mind
You love to be a girl in control
You only take me out to mingle
So they see you aren't single
I don't wanna be your trophy boy

You tell me
Sit still, look pretty
I'm lucky you're with me
You tell me
Sit still, look pretty
I'm lucky you're with me

Chorus:
But I'll sit pretty for for you
While you're out on the town
And I'm wondering where you go
And i'll sit pretty for you
'Cuz I care even though you don't..

Bridge:
You were the sunshine of my life
You were the one that I could talk to all the time
Whether if I'm wrong or right
You were the sunshine of my life

But you tell me
Sit still, look pretty
I'm lucky you're with me
You tell me
Sit still, look pretty
I'm lucky you're with me

Chorus:
But I'll sit pretty for for you
While you're out on the town
And I'm wondering where you go
And i'll sit pretty for you
'Cuz I care even though you don't..
