Bio

release of their debut album ‘Silver Lining’ MICROLIP are well and truly ready for 2012. Their debut album ‘Silver Lining’ was released on August 29th 2011 and cemented MICROLIP’s place as one of the finest bands to come from our fair shores. The album is certain to leave you wanting to hear more and more and more...!

MICROLIP formed in 2008 after a chance encounter between Portadown musicians Jaime McDonald, Jamesy Wilson, John Mulholland and Mick Carvill. They decided to abandon their personal projects and collaborate their musical talents into one almighty force... MICROLIP. Since then the MICROLIP lads have been doing what they do best – writing songs and gigging. Influenced by an eclectic mix of 80’s 90’s and 00’s Pop and Rock, MICROLIP have developed a unique and ever-growing sound. Within 12 months of formation, MICROLIP were playing Northern Ireland’s top music venues and sharing stages with bands such as Two Door Cinema Club, Cashier No9, Panama Kings and General Fiasco.

But, in 2009 they got their first big break – playing support to international chart toppers The Script in Belfast’s prestigious Spring & Airbrake. This gave impetus to a new and exciting time for MICROLIP.

Early 2010 saw the addition of fifth member Neil Guy on keyboards, adding to the already huge sound and helping to create the definitive sound of MICROLIP. The band got their first commercial radio airplay with their first single Man of Steel. This went on to be play-listed on all of Northern Ireland’s radio stations including 97.4 Cool FM, 96.7 CityBeat FM and BBC Radio Ulster to name a few. The single was also used by BBC Sports for their coverage of the rugby international between Ireland and Samoa and the track was played to tens of thousands of sports fans in the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin before the rugby internationals in November 2010. MICROLIP had an unbelievable 2010 playing to sell out audiences in some of Northern Ireland’s biggest venues including The Black Box, Spring & Airbrake and The Empire.

2011 was another fantastic year for MICROLIP and saw them supporting more well renowned bands including The Coronas on their 3 Northern Irish dates in April. They also performed at West Fest (Co. Mayo) where they shared the stage with headliners Imelda May, The Coronas, The Republic of Loose and Sharon Shannon to name a few. On top of these appearances MICROLIP took thier debut album on a short tour few around the country which began in Bennetts Bar in their hometown of Portadown on 30th July. They were also delighted to appear at One Cool Weekend as part of the Festival of Flight in Newcastle (Co. Down) where they shared the stage with acts such as The Feeling, Wonderland, Relish, Ed Sheeran and many more.

Already, this year is shaping up to be a fantastic year for the MICROLIP lads. They are currently finishing off their first single of 2012 and are shooting their first music video later this month (January) with the fantastic Maverick Renegade Productions. They have already secured several festival slots and are delighted to announce that they will be appearing in ‘Keith Lemon - The Film’ which is due for release later this year.

This year will be an exciting journey and MICROLIP will be making more
announcements as the year progresses. Stay in touch with latest form the lads via the links below.

"Only now and then does a band come along with something special to offer. When MICROLIP supported us I could see that rare fire in them for their music and live show. Ill be following their progress and know it will be great”
Mark Sheehan of The Script

“I knew from the first time I heard the promo CD that MICROLIP had something very different about them from other bands. When they joined me in the studio and performed an acoustic version of 'Man of Steel' live on the radio the feedback was immense. They have set a high standard for others to follow and I'm really looking forward to hearing the album. I'm totally behind MICROLIP and all of us at Cool FM have no doubt they will be the next big thing from NI and wish them all the success they deserve in the future"
Gareth Stewart - Cool FM Drive-Time Presenter

“ Excellent! That’s a hit!”
Gerry Anderson - BBC Radio Ulster

“MICROLIP’S Man of Steel is a really big pop/rock song with a chorus that defies gravity and production twists that make it stand out f
