"Music revolution"

Urb's take: Nothing says hip hop like three MC's standing in front of a comic book store with an Imperial Walker and a superimposed GI Joe band photo. But never judge a book by it's cover because the Microphone Messengers bring a nostalgic hip-hop style that's lo-tempo in rap and amusing in its use of Star Wars with socially incorporated lyrics. Remember, they're not the first to reference Star Wars but look beyond the geek culture and find a straight-edged rap that's imperially on the march. - URB (Nov '06)

Bio

Microphone Messengers consist of AyDee and JustnMC, two cousins from way down south. They grew up listening to the Beastie Boys and RunDMC in the 80's, and started writing their own rhymes around 1995. JustnMC started out sitting in with local rock bands, doing covers and slowly but surely the cousins started putting songs together in 2000. They have played shows in New Orleans, Denver, Atlanta and Pensacola, but the majority have been in their hometown of Mobile,AL. They have been lucky enough to open for such acts as Evidence, Big Brother, Wu-Tang Clan, MC Chris, Collective Efforts, Psyche Origami, DJ Klever and more. The Messengers were also featured in the November 2006 Urb Magazine in the Myspace column and received a positive review by Josef Carmelo. Their biggest influences in hip hop are the Beasties, Run Dmc, ATCQ, Ugly Duckling, Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Lateef & Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, Aceyalone and Outkast.
