Bio

Like most artistic creations, Midget Smith began as an idea. An idea that past and present popular musical trends could combine themselves into a new sound capable of making a lasting impression on the listener.

The story of Midget Smith begins like most others. Lead Singer / Rhythm Guitarist Scott Kornblatt met Drummer Jeff Pace while playing in another Philadelphia Original Band in mid-2000. Their rhythmic affinity towards one another was apparent from the start and it was evident that Scott and Jeff had stumbled into a bond that would outlast the band.

In September of 2001, Scott and Jeff left the band that seeded their friendship to pursue greater endeavors. They began restructuring, rewriting and practicing the songs in Scott’s repertoire with the help of Lead Guitarist Jason Matzner, a longtime friend of Scott’s. Jason’s versatile skills had him playing in other local Original Bands for the past 2 or 3 years or so, as a Rhythm Guitarist and Bass Player, but it was time for Jason to step into the spotlight as Midget Smith’s Lead Guitarist. Jason’s extensive jam band influences and melodic playing style breathed new life and a new vibe into the songs, giving them an exciting and invigorating feeling that complimented Scott’s lyrical writing style.

The trio forged ahead, knowing that a bass player was necessary to further solidify the sound they were hoping to achieve. The perfect match was found in Bass Player Landon Leaver. Landon had also toured the Philadelphia music scene in various cover bands, but was looking for something a little more creative. He was an immediate fit to Midget Smith and his addition took the band to the next level. Landon’s funk-rock style of playing exhumed and uncovered a new sound hidden well within the depths of Midget Smith. The sound that would finally give Midget Smith the unique acoustic/rock/funk sound they had been unknowingly striving for.

Since October of 2002, Midget Smith has been converting fans across the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. In a music scene where it seems as if one too many “garage-type,” alternative bands are emerging from every crack in the ground, Midget Smith is a refreshing musical experience that’s sure to have you humming their hooks the morning after.

Lasting impressions. From the first note played to the last word sung. It’s what one is bound to leave a Midget Smith performance with. This was, is and will be the most important goal for these Philadelphia Rockers.
