Bio

With the signature styling of rich, passionate melodies and crafted, poetic lyrics, the music of Midnight Brilliance gives listeners a spectrum of emotions that exist deep within our hearts. The opulent tones of guitars, accompanied with a pronounced percussion and lush resonance of symphonic instruments blend together, creating an underlying soundtrack to each of the song’s piercing, poetic voice of lyrics. Chris Kozak’s vocals are often praised for its delicate verses and dynamic, powerful choruses.

For several years, Chris has been continuously writing songs that capture a moment in time where one’s emotions are caught between impulse and thorough decisions; a truth. His poetry is heavily based on the final lyrics in each song. Though his lyrics have been commented on being very cryptic, it invites the listener to feel the song’s meaning, generating the message of the song through their own interpretation. From the raw, acoustic indie sound, to the impulsive, thick tones of blues, to personified musical legends as Jim Morrison, Jeff Buckley and Ben Harper, Chris’ influences in music have melded into his own, creative sound. He has performed onstage at local coffee shops and music venues in Manitoba, Minnesota and New York City. With a full-band accompaniment, the songs are raised to a higher caliber of creativity, emotion and intensity. His sound of dark melancholy gives the audience a vision of what lies beneath his lyrics.

“The tones and melodies of the music I write are always evolving into stronger, meaningful material. I usually give the songs time to breathe and grow, as the writing aspect has a lot of introspection; allowing the lyrics to shape in my mind and fall hand-in-hand with the melody of each song. As tedious and patient I have to be with the development of the music, the overall experience of pouring out the emotions is most rewarding, and makes the greatest of songs – singing the truth.”

His first independent record was recorded in 2004, entitled Struts & Frets. His home studio allowed time for organic development, while his brother, Jeff, filled in drums and percussion. The positive reaction to his music created lots of support from family and friends, which lead to 2006’s Life & Love, under the moniker of Midnight Brilliance. Four years later, after much performing and writing, he recorded Shadows of Whispers, with guest vocalist Bobbi Halling, of Jettison.

His writing comes purely from impulse and first takes on emotional feelings. His creativity becomes alive throughout the night, often waking up to spend hours writing a new song. The music of Midnight Brilliance is never shy of a melancholic testament of life, love, and everything in between.
