"Lion Begins"

Lion Begins
Reviewer: Indi Roc
So your Midst of Lions you release a cd with great music, a great singer, great guitars, great drums, and great bass. Then your drummer and singer leave. What do you do? Well if your Midst of Lions you begin again, only this time better than before. Guitarist Aaron Lucas goes out and recruts long time friend, and high school chum Susan Croston to replace Creed reminisant Patrick Webb. Bassist Jeff Tucker looks no further than his own brother, Mike Tucker Jr to become the permanet drummer in place of the session guys in the first offering. This time finds Midst in a more progressive blues flavored heavey rock vibe, and at times more pasionate when it comes to worship. Susan Croston vocals soar where others can only dream. Her vocals and Lucas' guitars are a match made in heaven, that will rattle the walls of hell. Tuckers drumming is more strait forward heavey rock which suits the music better. The new take of This Is Life To Me sounds less like the Creed sound that the previous singer tried to keep them in, and more like a cross between Godsmack, and Dream Theater. Guitar solos are longer here as well. Lucas' guitar work seems less constrained, and more explosive on some tracks, while on others his guitar work is sentimental. New songs that appear on this EP like Feel Home Again show that the bands changes are only for the better. Lucas now seems like he can musically go into uncharted territory with Croston, that he may have never reached with previous singer. As a band this will be the line-up that will give the band a better chance at staying power, where as with the previous line-up may have lumped the band up with the usual flavor of the month sound. As for the recording the crisp live feel of the cd may leave some listners at a loss, some tracks might have benefited from a more experienced producer, but over all this recording aside from the multi vocal and guitar tracks, makes you feel like the band is right beside you. All in all if this is Midst of Lions now and tomorrow, the day after tomorrow should prove to be very strong!!
