"Indie Music Album Reviews"

Guitarists and singers Henry Moldenhauer and Tyler Ford formed Mighty Mango during the summer of 2016. Drummer Eli Zerkle and bassist Casey Jaerling joined the band soon after. Mighty Mango started performing in and around their hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina at venues like the Double Door Inn and the Milestone club during their senior year of high school. They recorded their first EP Kim, at Emmy award-winning Catalyst Recording Studio and it caught the attention of classmates and the local alternative rock radio station. In June 2017, Mighty Mango played at the NC Music Factory for the iHeartRadio New Music Discovery series. However, later that fall the band mates parted ways due to attending different universities across the country, managing to play together during breaks away from school.

In the summer of 2018, Mighty Mango returned to Catalyst Recording Studio to record their second EP Worth the Weight. They changed up the lineup with Chaandmon Croft on drums and Harrison McGoogan on bass accompanying Ford and Moldenhauer. The summer of 2019 will see the band tour in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia with plans on releasing their first full length album.

Worth the Weight opens up with the energetic, fast-paced tune “Bad News.” The song has a nice swing to it with the wailing guitar and sweet vocals that you can’t help but sway to. “Better In My Head” has a bit of country twang to it. That’s not a bad thing either as they modernize it with pedal effects such as delay and chorus, a first for the band. “Bug Sounds” again heavily uses delay effects that kind of muffle the overall quality sound of the instrumentation of the song. Luckily “The Knee Song” is a great song to end the album on. It sounds like something Queens of the Stone Age or Artic Monkeys would’ve came up with. It’s a solid rock song that you can enjoy with its catchy hooks and its face melting guitar solos at the end.

Mighty Mango produce some mighty tunes. - Divide and Conquer

I've been working with Mighty Mango since March of 2017 and what I like the most about them is how much they stay the same ... that is, they stay focused and true to their roots; they're still doing college rock, still maintaining a strong sense of fun (even when doing more serious material), still with two distinctive lead vocalists, still organic and funky and unique. They haven't changed so much as gotten way better at it. - Rob Tavaglione (Emmy Award-Winning Catalyst Recording)

Hearing Mighty Mango at our Music Discovery Show for the first time was an amazing musical experience. I was blown away at how great of a sound they have at such an early stage in their career. It's very rare that I get excited about local bands, but Mighty Mango is the real deal and I foresee a great future for them. Also, don't let their age fool you, these guys can rock with the best of them! - IHeartRadio

Great fun seeing Mighty Mango at 106.5 The End's New Music Discovery Show! Very polished live performance. Looking for big things from this young, up and coming band from Charlotte. - Divakar of 106.5 THE END

When I first met these guys in the spring of 2017, they were high school students just getting off the ground of playing in the Charlotte music scene. For years I have hosted local musicians to give them a platform to showcase their talents and these guys did not disappoint! From the start, their instrumental abilities and harmonizing voices had the crowd hooked. Not only did they have them hooked, but they had them energized and kept it going through their entire set. Their humble and somewhat shy offstage presence is nowhere to be found once they are plugged in and ready to perform. I felt honored to be a venue owner (with over 18 years in the Charlotte music scene) that allowed these amazing guys to get their chance to shine. Mighty Mango is definitely the type of talent we have all been waiting and hoping for. They have a bright future ahead of them and I am excited to witness this at any place that is fortunate enough to book them. - Tommy Noblett, Manager of the Famous Comet Grill

"Working with Mighty Mango this past year has been an
absolute blast! The guys come out ready to set up on time and rock and
roll shortly after. I have numerous requests from my staff to work outside when
Mighty Mango has a set that night because their shows are so much fun and
they always attract a great crowd. OMB patrons flag me down to ask when they'll
be here next and they make a point to show up for the next set. They may be 19
years old but their skill level and professionalism are astounding. I would
highly recommend Mighty Mango to play at any venue."

-Carlie Bodder (Olde Mecklenburg Brewery) (2018)

"Mighty Mango mixes it up with some indie stuff, some funk, and a little rock-n-roll for ultimately a "college rock" sound. They did a solid job in their first studio venture, but more importantly.... they draw big crowds and know how to keep them happy."

-Rob Tavaglione (June 2017)

"I was very impressed with their musicianship, polish, and professionalism. It was completely unexpected knowing they are 19! I mean, I thought they'd be good, but dude, really impressive! They are welcome back anytime."
