Mighty Fairly’s melodic hooks, insightful lyrics and eclectic mix of instrumentation on their current release, Perfectly Good Airplanes, including African Marimba and Keytar, have created a mounting buzz. Mighty Fairly’s songs simultaneously pull the listener in with clever turns of phrase while never letting their foot stop stomping. The guitar sounds bring a rough and gritty mix to this hook-laden, power pop. Multiple layers of vocals, with intricate harmonies, flow smoothly in otherwise indie songs, brilliantly flipping back and forth between traditional and current underground echos. Their refusal to take themselves too seriously, indicated by their tongue-in-cheek and obviously abstruse lyrics, as well as their camp ridden photography and album art, shows they have a well developed self-sense of humor. Mighty Fairly creates a sound that is unique, profoundly enjoyable, and goose bump raising.
