"New Zealand Singer-Songwriter Takes Step Forward in West Texas"

"...Really, this is some of the most original material I have ever been associated with," Caldwell said. "I compare it to when I was working with Terry Allen for the very first time. Nobody had ever heard anything like what he was doing — and I've never heard anything before like what Mikaela has just recorded"...Her music embodies her sensitivity, her life, her humor. She is an entertainer unimpaired by commercial restraints..." - Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Lubbock, TX, USA

"Mikaela Dewar - Overdressed"

“…a really really inspiring first CD. I like it very much…Mikaela Dewar’s Overdressed is as spirited a first offering as you could actually wish for." - Keith Warmington, BBC Radio, Bristol, U.K.

Bio

Mikaela Dewar is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand. She has been playing music practically her whole life. She started playing her dad's old guitar at 7 and was playing shows by 9. Mikaela's music fuses blues, jazz & old-school country and she can't help but swing whatever she sings.

Mikaela's gypsy spirit has led her from her island home to play music all over the world. She has gone from touring with bands in outback Australia, one of which supported Keith Urban, to studying music amongst the tumbleweeds at South Plains College, Texas. From playing clubs in London, England to Nashville, Tennessee, where she recorded her second album. “Hard as Nails” was produced by Don Kerce (Alex Chilton, Buddy Rich, Lisa Carver) and features incredible Nashville players Glen Duncan (Mark Knopfler, Bill Monroe, George Jones), Robin Ruddy (Rod Stewart, Lee Greenwood, Vince Gill) and Barry Walsh (Roy Orbison, Jimmy Webb, Gretchen Peters).

Mikaela's debut album "Overdressed" was recorded in Lubbock, Texas and was produced by Todd Caldwell (Crosby, Stills & Nash) & Don Caldwell (Joe Ely, Terry Allen). She has won New Zealand’s premier country music award, The Gold Guitar Award, and was a Grand Finalist in Star Maker, Australia's most prestigious country music talent search. She was the South Plains College Female Songwriter of the Year twice. While living in West Texas, Mikaela was a regular performer at the historic Cactus Theater and also supported Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines, Ian Moore, Fred Eaglesmith and The Thriftstore Cowboys.

Mikaela has spent the last two years writing and playing shows in the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin, Texas. She recently performed with the great guitar player Tommy Emmanuel at the Moody Theater (the Austin City Limits studio) and has just completed a successful tour of the Southwest with Jeremiah and the Red Eyes. Mikaela is now based in Nashville, where she is recording her third album.
