"The Legend Speaks"

Several weeks ago I was at the Indigo Coffeehouse in Aberdeen, when I encountered a young singer/songwriter by the name of Mikael Lewis. He played with finesse and sang with conviction, but yet he did not overpower his listeners. His music drew me in and held my attention. He used his music to paint portraits and scenes. Mikael used shades of Neil Young, Dylan, even Woody Guthrie, yet his synthesis of style all blended into Mikael.
...Mikael likens his guitar playing to that of Ani DiFranco, Lindsey Buckingham and Bruce Cockburn. I asked Mikael, "What do you mostly write about?" He said; "Songs are stories. I write about small town people with big dreams. I write about things that piss me off, like politics and injustices around me. Though I try not to preach. I prefer to sneak into peoples minds by the back door."
His writing is truly beautiful.
Mikael is a contemporary troubadour with a classic style. I strongly urge you to get out and hear him perform. And yes, he will get into your mind.

"Dreamy little number from Mikael Lewis"

NOW back in his native USA after delighting audiences across the Province during many years as a resident here, much respected singer-songwriter Mikael Lewis' latest release, Closer to the Dream, deals with hope, shattered Expectations and resilience.
A four-track EP that also displays Lewis' more than ample abilities as a storyteller, the title track, a gentle rock song much in the same vein as Matchbox 20 and Counting Crows, is brought alive by his vivid lyrics about the young girl leaving home to have a shot at becoming 'Queen of the Silver Screen'.
This Sinking Ship provides a funkier, chilled Brand New Heavies groove while the breezy, melancholy tune to Destination Anywhere is pulled apart by the rawer subject matter of a woman coming to terms with a life of disappointment and dejection. The final track, Take Me Back, is a more upbeat tune invoking memories of the innocence of childhood.
This is fine rock and roll with elements of country and funk that will have fans hoping it won't be too long before he returns to these shores.
