"Roots Rock Review, Spring 2017 Select Seven"

Roots Rock Review, Spring 2017 Select Seven "Generations is a progressive urban folk group led by the father-son duo of Mike & Aleksi Glick. Their latest release is the impressive album Two for the Blues.” -

"Beth & Perry Stein, Ethical Brew Coffeehouse, 2018 Teaneck NJ"

“This father/son duo, aptly named “Generations,” truly engaged with our audience. Mike Glick’s traditional folk roots and soulful vocals somehow manage to simultaneously blend and contrast with son Aleksi’s jazz-infused masterful guitar licks, creating a unique sound all their own. Whether riffing on folk, blues, Latin or jazz, Generations offers up something for everyone. We loved the wonderful show they put on, but more importantly our audience loved them.“ -

"Dave Rogers WTJU (Virginia) April 2016"

"Mike & Aleksi Glick – Generations Two For The Blues (Self-produced): Father/son duo (Mike on lead vocals & guitar; son Aleksi lead guitar & vocals) present an interesting assortment of topical originals (particularly, Katrina Blues, Living While Black, and Black Gold); reinterpretations of three works by Langston Hughes; and a cover of the 1964 R&B release Down Home Girl." -

"Steve Suffet, Peoples' Voice Cafe, 2018, New York City"

"In the music world there are showmen and there are craftsmen. A showman, even one with mediocre chops, knows how to hold an audience, give them their money's worth, and leave them wanting to come back for more. The craftsman, on the other hand, is technically skilled, a master of his or her craft, whether it is singing, playing an instrument or writing a song. If you can only be one, it is better to be a showman, because there are, unfortunately, too many technically skilled folks who just don't know how to put on a good show.

"Of course, it is best to be both a showman and a craftsman. One example that immediately comes to mind is Mike Glick, the singer, guitarist and songwriter from New York City's Upper West Side. But Mike is more than that, because to his showmanship and his craftsmanship he adds two intangible but very real elements: good taste and fierce compassion. Taken together, that is like hitting the Superfecta. The combination rarely comes in, but when it does the payoff – in this case the musical payoff – can be enormous." -

"Barry Adelman, Co-Founder, 2018, MusicForHumanity.org"

“I loved your set. Mike Glick, in the tradition of Woody, Arlo and Pete, writes and sings songs of freedom to uplift and unite us. He carries the torch of freedom forward for all people; He is a 21st century troubadour." -

"Chris Owens, formerly of the City Sun (NYC)"

“Mike's lyrics are poignant and relevant. Aleksi is the classic lead guitarist – skilled and dazzling.” Chris Owens, musician, formerly with The City Sun -

"Brooklyn Magazine, June 2016"

"Mike Glick is a songwriter from another generation. If you don’t know what I mean by that, consider that Glick counted Peter Seeger as a friend, and wrote him a moving tribute when the folk legend died back in 2014. At this point in his life, Mike performs as Generations, a duo that features him and his son Aleksi Glick. Together they perform original and classical folk songs that follow in the footsteps of age-old American acoustic music." -

Bio

Generations: Mike & Aleksi Glick is a New York City-based father-and-son duo who blend soulful vocals with virtuoso guitar playing. Mike (lead vocals, guitar) toured the USA - and played Europe, Asia and the Caribbean with an earlier group, The New Song Project. Robert Palmer, then with The New York Times, wrote, “More rousing and musically substantive than the music of city folksingers of previous generations,” while Pete Seeger called him “one of the best songwriters going.” Mike is now back, 20+ years later with his son. Aleksi (lead guitar, vocals) leads his rock/jazz group Snack Cat – as well as being an in-demand sideman. He has played duos with jazz masters Paul Bollenback, Ed Cherry and Vic Juris. His jazz trio has appeared at several NYC hot spots and he is a member of the Seth Weaver Big Band. Aleksi has also composed music for film and television.

Bob Sherman, Woody's Children, WFUV-FM "Quite a potent combination there - Langston Hughes Song for Billie Holiday in a beautiful new setting by Mike Glick and a fine new recording (Generations: Two for the Blues) by Mike, and at the guitar, his son Aleksi Glick." (And about Living While Black) "Strong Song!"

Chris Owens, a Brooklyn-based songwriter who has written reviews for The City Sun in NYC has said about the group, " if you loved the richness of the Woodstock concert, you’ll love Generations. And if you don’t know Woodstock, you’ll still love Generations! ....Mike's treatment of poems and writings by others are respectful and moving. The late Pete Seeger labeled Mike 'one of the best songwriters going.' Aleksi is the classic lead guitarist – focused on the music and the moment. The younger Glick is skilled and dazzling, reflecting great training and a variety of influences.

Ron Goad, Songwriters Assn. of Washington (SAW) and multiple Wammie award winner. “Katrina Blues is a favorite of mine......Daybreak in Alabama is rich and complex, in my opinion a brilliant and advanced composition.....reminds me of some of my favorites by the Beatles, songs that grew on me.”
