""The 13 Best Cowboy Songs of All Time""

Beck is riding high after being recognized by Western Horseman magazine in a recent article naming "The 13 Best Cowboy Songs of All Times" along with songs written by luminaries such as Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Allison Moorer, Lucinda Williams and Ian Tyson.

"I had two songs on that list, which was kind of cool," said Beck. "to be alongside some of the other people on that list, like Tom Russell, Ian Tyson. I thought, that's nice company. That was nice of them to say that."
- Western Horseman Magazine

"Tom Russell Says"

"Mike Beck is one of those songwriters with the cowboy in his heart. His songs are filled with braided rawhide and mission bells...Listen up, Friend!"
Tom Russell - Tom Russell

"Ramblin' Jack Elliott says"

"Mike Beck plays the guitar like a Byrd. His strings do things that mine could never do. They obey the slightest finger-touch commands like a fine Reining Horse."
Ramblin Jack Elliott - Ramblin Jack

"Ian Tyson Says"

“Mike's plowing new ground. He's not re-recording the old Hollywood matinee music from the 30's and 40's. You've got to have focus and keep producing good stuff. He's better than all of those newer western guys.”?

"Mike Beck Songwriter"

The music of Mike Beck has been heard throughout the United States, and internationally, including NPR Radio, CBC, Sirius/XM and the BBC, among others. His original material, reflects his love of Merle Haggard, Ian Tyson, Ramblin Jack Elliott, The Byrds, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Beck also hopes to further tap into listeners who were introduced to his songs by local Americana radio station KPIG. With the Americana station now broadcasting in Chico, San Luis Obispo, Redding, and the Bay Area along with the Monterey Bay region, Beck is planning on getting his group to secure more gigs in the other KPIG markets.

It’s a strategy that could pay off. KPIG DJ Ellie Mae says the station frequently plays songs including “George Orwell’s 113th Dream” from his last release Rooted.

“KPIG listeners love him,” Mae says. “I get requests for him all the time.” - Marc Cabrera - Monterey County Herald (Apr 9, 2009)

2010 - "Feel"
2006 - "Rooted"
2001 - "Mariposa Wind"

He is a former working cowboy who still conducts horse clinics in Europe. Two of Mike Beck’s songs were listed in the "13 Best Cowboy Songs of All Time" in the April 2009 issue of Western Horseman Magazine ("In Old California" – a song about Jo Mora - and "Don’t Tell Me.")
