Eternal Family

Lyrics/Eternal Family

V1. Well you paid some dues…
But you’re still tryin’ to find your way.
And you played some gigs,
But you’re looking for a better day.

V2. Now you’re on your own,
With an old suit and a beat up horn.
And you make some calls,
You find a club that will put you on…..

Chorus1.
So you play your set, and as you’re packin’ up your case,
You can taste the sweat, rollin’ down your face,
Like a thousand cats before…
Your Eternal Family.

V3.Tryin’ to make ends meet…
Playin jazz, night and day
Life is bittersweet.
But when you’ve had a taste, it’s the only way….

V4. Angels in the wings,
When you step on stage, it’s like Deja Vu
Somewhere Sarah sings,
To pull you up, when you’re feelin’ blue

Chorus 2
Just remember Diz and Bird and Lady Day,
Coltrane and Miles and old JJ,
And if you play jazz, that’s your Eternal Family

To Solos:

V5.Tryin’ to make ends meet…
Playin jazz, night and day
Life is bittersweet.
But when you feel the call, it’s the only way….

V6. Angels in the wings,
When you step on stage, it’s like Deja Vu
Somewhere Sarah sings,
To pull you up, when you’re feelin’ blue

Chorus 3
Just remember Diz and Bird and Lady Day,
Coltrane and Miles and old JJ,
And if you play jazz, that’s your Eternal Family

(Out chorus Vamp over INTRO changes)
What would Ella Do?
When confronted with the task at hand?
What would JJ Do?
Or Jaco, or Slide, would they understand? (Duke or Stan?)

What would Armstrong say?
Or Lester Young, or Jelly Roll?
What would Ornette play?
Or Horace or Frank Rosolino?
