Mike Hart Band

Mike Hart Band

BandBluesSinger/Songwriter

Based in Blues and roots Rock, but influenced by Jazz and Folk. Does many of the songs of Mike Hart, a prolific and very original songwriter with a fine art background.

Biography

My music has been described as James Brown meets Bob Dylan meets Weather Report. That's pretty close to my intent, because it incorporates R & B, intelligent lyrics in songs that last, and Jazz that's not afraid to take chances. Influences include the Blues greats - all the Kings; B.B., Albert & Freddie, T-Bone Walker, Bob Dylan, James Brown, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Weather Report, and many others too numerous to mention. What sets us apart from other bands is a fierce originality. We're really hard to categorize. The songs could vary from a Blues based funk to an off the wall mood piece with intelligent lyrics. The closest comparisons would be Tom Waits. Greg Brown, Mark Knopfler, and Van Morrison, with a little Captain Beefheart thrown in.

Doggin' Me Black & Blue

Written By: Mike Hart

You're doggin' me black & blue
I can't use you
You're doggin' me black & blue
I can't use you
Youre fleecing me for favors
Greasing me for kicks
Setting me up for fall guy
And any other dirty trick
But whoa ... I'm not going
I'm not going where the soil sticks
Oh no ...no...no

I gotta tell you
It happened way back in the past
When I was going first
And you were going last
You sprayed my wall with dirt & oil
Built a fire in my back yard
Kept calling Rome on my telephone
Yes, you really made it hard
But I'm patient
I'm not ready to explode
At least not before
I get the final score
When I'm out there on the road

You're doggin' me black & blue
I can't use you
Yes, you're doggin' me black & blue
I can't use you
You're playing me for a sucker
Playing with my mind
Freezing my emotions
And burning my behind
But I'm outa here
I'm free from your grip
I'm bent - I'm spent
I already went
Goodbye! Just read my lips

Everybody's Human

Written By: Mike Hart

If I ever find a woman I can trust
I'm gonna keep her by my side
If I ever find a woman I can trust
I'm gonna keep her by my side
I'll do anything it takes
To keep her satisfied
Eat a little crow
Swallow my share of pride
If I ever find a woman I can trust
I'm gonna keep her by my side
Oh yeah ...

I had a woman once
Who had a very pure heart
I had a woman once
Who had a very pure heart
But I didn't know what it was worth
And I let it fall apart
You take someoneone for granted
That's when the trouble starts
I had a pure-hearted woman once
But I let it fall apart
Oh Yeah ...

I let little things bother me
Till they turned into something big
I let little things bother me
Till they turned into something big
Don't let little things bother you
Till they turn into something big
And remember, you can get buried
in the holes that you dig
Don't let little things bother you
Till they turn into something big
Oh no ...

And don't let the things you want
Make you blind to what you have
Don't let the things you want
Make you blind to what you have
The world's a crazy place
and people are going mad
Everybody I see
Is making each other so sad
Don't make the things you want
Make you blind to what you have
Oh No ...

'cause everybody's human
and we all make mistakes
to err is human
Everybody makes mistakes
But you can learn
from them and change
You can give someone a break
You might need forgiveness
for the errors that you make
Everybody's human
Everybody makes mistakes
Oh Yeah ...

Theme Park

Written By: Mike Hart

It began with cloning pets,
but why stop there
When there are so many men from history 'bout whom people care
They had Elvis, FDR, and Davy Crockett too
They brought all your favorite heros
right on back to you
They guaranteed each child
A home and untold wealth
And even their Stephen Hawking
In real life, had perfect health

They took the DNA of Hitler
And Cloned him for their park
Spent 5 million searching
for the grave of Joan Of Arc
They combed the shroud of Turin
but grew a daughter, not a son
They musta got a nose hair
from some early catholic nun
They treated actors well,
gave they all the perks
Didn't want their laboratory children
thinking they were jerks

They copied General Washington
The actor's name was Keith
And sued for breach of contract
(wouldn't wear the wooden teeth)
The clone of JFK
was as charming as his double
& that mirror-image Pope John Paul
loved riding in that bubble
When the time was finally ripe
the bill just sailed through congress
Old-fashioned thoughts
that we've been taught
gave way to mankind's progress

Ol' Betsy Ross
they say is done and coming soon
and from that carving in the tree
a speck of blood from Daniel Boone
Abe Lincoln's voice was a "no go"
even when they altered tones
They eventually decided
to use the voice of James Earl Jones
