"Upcountry Blues"

"It's been said that "The Blues is a Feeling". If that's true - and I believe it is - Mike Herman's got the feeling. This middle class, suburban New Yorker's roots style of play defies his being born 1300 miles away from the Delta." - Pete 'Blewzzman'Lauro - Editor at Mary4Music

"The Imprint Show on Catskill Community Radio"

"After three studio CD's with the Hellhounds under his belt "So-lo" is the perfect title for Mike Herman's first CD out on his own except for some vocal harmony arrangements from Jim Averna
this CD is all Mike.
The guitar work as usual is flawless, but on this CD he steps up to the mic and takes center stage.
Mike penned 9 of the 12 songs on "So-lo", all which were written in the last year, but knowing Mike for well over a decade and retracing the steps these songs have been harboring for years,
just waiting to be written.
Pick up the CD, and if you get a chance to see him play live. do it!!" - Terry Doyle

Bio

Growing up on Long Island, music for Mike Herman included guitar lessons with Little Toby Walker, a trip to and through Mississippi with Toby searching out and playing with old-time bluesmen such as Jack Owens, Eugene Powell, and R.L. Burnside, and attaining a Bachelor's Degree in Music at SUNY Purchase.
To follow was a long wished for move to the Catskill Mountains. The next 12 years were spent teaching guitar and playing in the regional acoustic blues duo - The Hell Hounds. Their time together included recording three of their own CD's, and contributing on two compilations for Larchmont Recordings with other artists such as: Rhonda Vincent, Sue Foley, and Duke Robillard. They have performed at concerts, festivals, clubs and colleges up and down the East Coast and into the Midwest, and have opened for notables such as Roy Bookbinder, John Hammond, and Bob Margolin.
After The Hounds went their separate ways, Mike explored his interest in bluegrass and old-timey music while playing with the Aurora North Catskill Mountain Bluegrass band.
Mike now blends his influence of acoustic blues, bluegrass, ragtime, and old-timey music into a style uniquely his own. He currently teaches private lessons in Oneonta, teaches a Guitar Workshop at SUNY Delhi, offers Lesson Packages on his web-site, and performs regularly.
More than a few listeners have commented that if they could not see - they would be sure they were listening to Jorma Kaukonen, and that his song-writing style is reminiscent of Bob Dylan.

Indie Recording Artist of Toe-tappin' Knee-slappin' make ya wanna shake somethin' acoustic country blues. With well blended influences of acoustic blues, bluegrass, ragtime & old-timey, his whole-souled talent and skill in composing is only heightened by his masterful marriage of words and music.
