Discography

Mike Woods, the creator and manager of Cousin Affect, released his first album in 2005 titled, "Attention To Detail." This was a solo album, but was the beginning of what was soon to be Cousin Affect. In 2007, “Brothers Under the Sun” became the first album released under the name “Cousin Affect” and while it was not yet the full band it is today, it did feature many of the band members. Finally, in early 2008, the band members all came together and began recording and performing as the band Cousin Affect you know today. Their self titled EP was released in October, 2008 and features the tracks they perform most often, some recorded in studio and some recorded live. These tracks can be found on iTunes or Amazon.com. More information, songs, and videos can also be found on CousinAffect.com and Myspace.com/mwoodshiphop.

Bio

With each new generation of people, we discover a new and innovative generation of music. Cousin Affect strives to be truly new and unique by offering a blended medley of sound, artist, social and racial background. Cousin Affect’s music is a compelling mix of genres. It is a powerful and unique style resulting from their wide range of musical appreciation. By using common blues progressions and funky chord arrangements, Cousin Affect is able to achieve a sound able to make all generations groove. They pay homage to the roots of music by drawing from its inspiration. With glimpses of blues, funk, reggae, jazz, rock, and the lyrical style of hip hop, Cousin Affect has truly captured an original style to call their own. It is aged yet still modern; Clean without the sugar coat; Intelligent and still accessible; Raw yet still precise. As mentioned, the band finds influence from a large range of different artists. These include Rage Against the Machine, DMB, Fat Freddy’s Drop, and 60s blues and soul music: Otis Redding, Al Green, Albert King, B.B. King, Freddie King, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Elmore James, Charlie Christian, Bad News Blues Band, Boogie Woogie, Staples Singers, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald. Cousin Affect is also influenced by some underground hip hop like anything off the Quannum projects label: Blackalicious, Lifesavas, Maroons, Gift of Gab, Latryx, and of course the sickest hip hop group of all time, Jurassic 5.
