Bio

As a 27 year old singer-songwriter, Mike Lawless has managed to fly under the radar to develop one of the most loyal followings among Toronto singer-songwriters.

Playing to packed (if not sold out) crowds at the NOW lounge, the Rivoli, Hugh's Room, and the Mississauga Living Arts Centre has become a norm for the piano based alternative folk singer. That aside, Lawless' living arrangements have made it difficult for him to mass promote his music over the past few years.

As a songwriter, vocalist, pianist, and guitarist, Lawless became a household name in London, Ontario, as a student at the University of Western Ontario. After leaving London in 2004, however, Lawless spent the better part of 2 years performing a solo show aboard a luxury cruise liner in the Caribbean. While not a common place to pursue a music career, Lawless was given the opportunity to hone his skills, develop an international following, and write a significant amount of new music. On top of this, he was able to fund his debut solo EP Patio Rock Star, which was released independently in July 2004.

In January 2006, Lawless recorded his most recent album while performing a one-man show at the stately Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, ON. The album, "One Piano, One Mike", is an intimate, raw, personal album featuring Mike's signature infectious melodies, intelligent lyrics, and unadulterated emotion.

While Lawless’ life abroad has made it difficult to garner the media recognition he deserves, Mike’s talent has not gone unnoticed by the collection of talented musicians he has surrounded himself with, both live and on his debut EP. Mark Kelso (Holly Cole, Pete Townshend, Shania Twain), Joel Anderson (Kathleen Edwards), Steve Klodt (Amanda Marshall), Murray Foster (Moxy Fruvous, Great Big Sea), and John Dymond (Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, K.D.Lang, Bruce Cockburn) have all collaborated with Mike over the past 3 years.

Now based in Toronto, Lawless is ready to take his next step in his musical career by finally showing the industry what his vast fanbase already knows – that it’s about time that the Canadian music industry is introduced to ‘one piano and one Mike’.
