Bio

Mike Lenz is based in NE Ohio and performs solo on guitar, vocals, harmonica, and stompbox. Winner of the Ohio based Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society's 13th Annual River City Ohio Blues Challenge, Mike represented them at the International Blues Competition in Memphis in 2006. He is influenced by everything from delta and piedmont blues artists such as Robert Johnson, Son House, Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Blake and Blind Boy Fuller to Jug Band stomps and rags of the 20’s and 30’s to classic 50’s and 60’s electric Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin’ Wolf to the raw juke joint boogies of Hound Dog Taylor and modern North Mississippi blues. His live show includes his originals, classic blues and bit of just about every genre of American roots music. He also performs regularly with The Mike Lenz Band, which features Jason Edwards on drums and Dennis Meyers on bass.

Mike is currently gigging regularly around Akron, Canton, Cuyahoga Falls, Massillon, Dover, Copley, South Euclid, Cleveland and the rest of northeast, central, and southern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia either solo, with The Mike Lenz Band, as a duo with Peggy Coyle and occasionally with The Mostly Blues Band. He teaches private lessons and usually does a few recording projects in the studio or on the road every month. The schedule link at http://mikelenz.com/schedule.html is always up to date.
