Mike Mako

Mike Mako

Mike certainly is good – and different. He combines a rugged vocal delivery with jazz inspired riffs and sweetly melodic rhythm guitar. Imagine The Clash and Lou Reed meeting Chet Baker.

Singer-Songwriter Mike Mako's first concert was held on top of a Hotel in Singapore during a thunderstorm. He has been playing impromptu gigs ever since, while backpacking around the world. Recently, he decided to settle in his native New York City, which holds a special place in his heart. Musical influences are wide and varied, but Mike has been compared to Lou Reed, The Clash, and even Sting! Primarily a guitarist, he also plays harmonica, bass guitar, keyboard, and sings his own songs. His solo and sometimes accompanied gigs have graced many fine establishments in New York City.

“I’d rather not have to play rhythm and lead guitar at the same time,” Mike admits, “but it makes me a better player.”

“Mike is usually here [FreezePeach, an internet café & tea bar in Astoria, Queens]. I usually come to the shows, I am really getting to know Mike’s material. He’s really good.” Lacey Simms, 24, of Astoria.
