"Angels on the Radio"

Thursday, May 22, 2008
Mike Musick - Angels On The Radio
A guitar strumming, a keyboard tingling, and a bass player laying down an airy rhythm while the singer asks, “what’s that song you used to sing? I want to hear it again and again.” The drummer brings in a wall of sound for the chorus, the wall stopping just short of distortion. “Here we are singing ‘our love will never die’” repeats with a chorus of voices bringing to mind many images of days gone by yet still to come. “It’s good to feel alive!” Sure is. Thanks Mike. Shoutout the slow meditation on love Mike calls Staring At The Sun (“she dances into danger like a child”). Mike Musick - Eartaste.com

"Mike Musick-Honest"

Mike Musick
Honest
Union St Records
10 song CD

While his name might be a little on the questionable side of rich and cheesy goodness, Mike Musick makes up for it with one of the best indie pop albums I've heard in a long, long time. Catchy and singable from beginning to end, Musick lets his skillful pop creativity come blazing through on every track.

At times he reminds me of David Gray, or maybe Joe Jackson, quite possibly because of his laid back and understated approach. Most of the time his songs revolve around a memorable hook and simple beat, letting the pop grow and flower into full bloom without any unnecessary flourishes. This simplicity is key, and it makes this an album you'll want to hear over and over again. - MISH MASH MUSIC

"Mike Musick 5-STARS"

Mike Musick - Honest (CD, Union Street, Pop)_It can be easy to become supremely bitter about music and the world. After all, there is so much wrong with everything that it can be difficult to try to be optimistic and find something or someone worth believing in. While preachy artists usually turn us off as quickly as they try to turn us on, we couldn't help but be affected by the seemingly genuine and honest approach of Mike Musick. Musick is involved in the effort to improve the growing global water crisis. And while that might at first seem tedious and futile...after hearing his songs, we can't help but feel that this guy has the right idea about things and that his heart and soul are in the right place. Beyond the water crisis there is something even more substantial...Mike's songs. This guy writes super smooth, super commercial sounding smooth pop that is slightly soulful. And man, what a voice. Sure, these songs are too slick and produced for the average alternative noise freak...but folks into commercial pop will find a lot to love here. Classy hummable tracks include "Angels on the Radio," "America," "Real Big World," and "Space Out." (Rating: 5) - Babysue.com

"CD Review"

CD Review - ‘Honest’ by Mike Musick
The title ‘Honest’ couldn’t be more appropriate. Music is a universal language, and Musick is a universal messenger. There’s no guessing games - he sings it to you straight from the heart on his title track ‘Honest’, he opens your eyes with his world-important song ‘America’, and tells stories we can all relate to like ‘Scream’ and ‘Staring at the Sun’. The album flows beautifully with soulful rhythms that crest with waves or realism, piquing your curiosity, and unleashing your inner consciousness.

Mike Musick’s (www.mikemusick.com) hit single “America” is being featured in the soon to be released documentary “The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry?” which will air on PBS stations across the west in September. The single which is currently #10 on the ACQB radio charts, will be featured during the final sequence of the film, which offers a definitive look at how the United States water crisis affects the Southwest states and its escalating economic toll on the region.

Jim Thebaut, Writer, Director and Producer of "The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry?," chose to use “America” because “Mike’s song is a call to action for individuals to act locally and think globally in order to confront and solve the evolving water crisis. The song speaks volumes for individuals to pay attention and to take responsibility in order to create a healthy and safe world for all of us to live in.” In collaboration with the documentary, Mike Musick’s charity Thirst Aid Live will be donating 37 cents from the sale of each “America” download to address the global water crisis through installing water purification systems across the developing world.

“America”, which was produced by the Grammy Award winning Monroe Jones (Third Day, Chris Rice), is the first single off Mike Musick’s third album Honest, which is set for release this summer. In support of “America”, Musick recently embarked on a two week cross country radio tour, where he performed songs from the album and brought awareness to his charity Thirst Aid Live. Mike will also be performing at the Verus Music Festival at Rocketown in Nashville, Tennessee on May 17th, which is a traveling music festival and label showcase that is held in cities across the U.S.

Musick has released a handful of projects that received acclaim in the past, starting with Liquid Fire’s House of Stones (2000) and continuing through his solo debut This Town (2002) (produced by Mitch Dane, whose credits include Jars of Clay) and Love Rain Down (2006). His single “Funk#5” reached #2 on Indie Rock Radio, while “This Town” reached #3 on that survey and was a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition and was released on a radio compilation entitled Still Small Voice. In addition, “Got Your Back” from This Town was a big college radio hit throughout the Midwest and was included on a 2004 Major League Baseball compilation CD that was distributed to players through UPI’s Think About It campaign; the compilation also featured Jeff Foxworthy.
