Orphans & Angels

Written By: Mike O’Leary

I was driving on a desert road
Full throttle with an empty load
100 miles from the nearest town
Loud music my windows down
My dreams were broken by surprise
I saw an angel looking for a ride

Broken down angel you sure look fine
Broken down angel Step right inside
I been looking for you all my life
Because Orphans and Angels make the prettiest kind

Said she’s headed out from Santa Fe
Rented the cheapest car that she could pay
Should have known that the engine would fail
Now just thumbing on the LA trail
Following the American dream
To make her name on the silver screen

Broken down angel you sure look fine
Broken down angel Step right inside
I been looking for you all my life
Because Orphans and Angels make the prettiest kind

Said her past had been kinda tough
Putting up for years with a lousy drunk
I smiled and said she’s not alone
That I was born pushed from home to home
She said maybe we could hang for a while
And do some healing under Desert skies

Broken down angel you sure look fine
Broken down angel Step right inside
I been looking for you all my life
Because Orphans and Angels make the prettiest kind

Country girl & a Son of the Blues

Written By: Mike O'Leary

Country girl and a Son of the Blues
Aug 06 GD C Mike O’Leary

Roads slipping away- too many years to worry,
I never laid down my roots.
Finding work with anyone that’ll pay me,
A jack of all trades that’s true
And you’ve been brought up with the best of intentions,
Bound to make your daddy proud.
Passed all your grades- your life’s in order
The darling of the crowd

Country girl, Country girl, you are a Country girl – Country girl, Country girl and I’m a son of the blues

I knew it was bad news when we met right there
In your daddy’s yard,
I looked in your eyes and whatever happened-
Put our heads up in the stars
We didn’t take your daddies warning,
Made a bolt for the moon,
He didn’t trust a travelling man,
Who stole his daughters bloom

Country girl, Country girl you are a Country girl – Country girl, Country girl and I’m a Son of the blues

Solos

He followed us to the middle of nowhere,
Jealousy and anger in his heart,
Shouting no-one can take a daddies love
A 45 would break us apart
I said honey stop you’re crying
And go back to your daddies’ farm
No one like me should put your life in danger
Or any kind of harm,

Country girl, Country girl you are a Country girl – Country girl, Country girl and I’m a Son of the blues

Spoken….

You said if my daddy really loves me- he’s gonna put that gun away,
I’ll always be his little girl but I had to be a woman one day
And with that he fell down to his knees and she hugged him right there and then
He told us both he was so sorry and if we could start off again as friends.. Country girl, Country girl etc times 2 END
