Singer songwriters do feel like they're ten a penny at the moment, or at least that's the impression my inbox gives me. I do try my best to sit and give everything I get sent a listen, most of it sounds 'nice', but it takes a lot for something to really stand out. For me it's usually the voice or the lyrics, admittedly you can normally tell within a few seconds whether it is for me or not. So a few weeks back when my friend Phil from Elba Sessions got in touch to suggest that I check out an artist they'd had in to record a podcast, I was a little bit pessimistic, "not another singer songwriter" I thought. Thankfully though I was wrong as I really enjoyed the session tracks that Phil sent over, and once he sent me over a copy of his album I was sold. So here we go, here's Mike Nisbet, not just another run of the mill songwriter... - Peenko

Mike Nisbet is the first act tonight and it doesn’t take long for him to silence the crowd with his distinguishingly smooth voice.
Nisbet performs a charming selection from album Vagrant, which consists of mellow finger picked riffs and lyrics of life and love.
In particular, ‘Funny Little Windows’ beautifully demonstrates the flair of talent possessed by the bearded singer songwriter.
A cover of ‘Loretta’, originally by Townes Van Zandt, fits the set perfectly and allows Nisbett to sing satisfyingly in a country style while integrating the sound of the harmonica. - Rave Child

Mike Nisbet is a Scottish singer-songwriter, now based in London, is a truly independent artist during Spring 2012. Giging solo with his acoustic guitar, Nisbet knows how to hold an audience in the palm of his hand, holding the room as they listen to the stories of lost love, homelessness, family and the blues.
A Diving Bell Production, Nisbet’s Debut album ‘Vagrant’ was recorded in Glasgows Diving Bell Lounge in by Marcus Mackay (Snow Patrol, Frightened Rabbit, Sparrow & The Workshop) and was released on (9/06/2011).
Though only 24 years old, Nisbet’s talents have flourished since his interest in music began. “I’ve been playing and writing music for years,” he says. “With ‘Vagrant’, it feels like I’ve really found my stride. The Diving Bell and Marcus’ involvement was really important to the whole process.
“The album’s ten tracks were written in the winter of 2010. I spent more than a year living between London and Glasgow so the songs are primarily to do with being on the road and basically having no home to return to.”
The album’s completion was made possible by Creative Scotland, which provided the funding for the studio time. Nisbet’s long term ambition to create a solo record that, at its heart, is one man playing directly to the listener, has been beautifully realised.
