"BoB" Plays the Delray Beach Garlic Festival

Delray Beach was hit by Hurricane Wilma a few weeks prior to the scheduled Garlic Festival. Power Lines and communication lines were down, and running water was out while trees covered the streets and beaches in the Southern Florida areas that hosted the Garlic Festival and surrounding areas. The resolve of the Festival promoters was strong and they were not going to cancel or postpone their event like the Fort Lauderdale Blues Festival and many other festivals did.

Thanks to the brave and Gracious hosts of the Garlic Festival and many workers repairing the area's utilities, Southern Florida saw its first Big Party since Wilma the Hurricane hit their area. The community needed this event from the Food and Goods venders to the Performers and most importantly the People of Southern Florida. The National Acts included Little Feat, The Gin Blossoms, and Dickey Betts.

Blues On Board went on stage Saturday Night right before The Gin Blossoms. They were ready to play early so they went on about 10 minutes before the 6:00 PM slated start time. They started off with "Come On, Let The Good Times Roll" then they Kicked it into Overdrive with a 10 minute version of their rendition of BB Kings Rock Me that they worked up days before the Festival. Then Mike and the Band went on to play some of Their Originals and “BoB” arranged Cover tunes. Mike was able to bring a Marshall and Fender amp and have them so loud that Key West could hear the bite of the Fender Telecaster. Brian laid down Great Beats while Gene Thumped the heck out of the bass. There was some great Crowd response from beginning to end with the crowd yelling out some positive compliments that can't be repeated due to the expletives. There was even a few great crowd participation moments, one was when the crowd was singing call and response style with Mike, another moment was when the crowd sang the last line to a Blues version of Led Zeppelins Rock and Roll. The Band ended the show with a rendition of Crossroads and the crowd clapped along with the trio from beginning to end with them finishing up their set right on time at 7:30 PM just to have the great people at the Garlic Fest demand an encore, so the band went into Scuttle Buttin’, they still wanted more but in respect to the Gin Blossoms the band left them wanting more and cleared off for the Gin Blossoms to take the stage. The Blues On Board CD, and T-shirt sales were at a record high and they made a lot of new fans. To sum up the show, BoB played its best set ever helping the Southern Florida area have some fun and get over its recent visit by Hurricane Wilma.

Keep The Blues Alive

Independent Release

Guitar slinger from the Washington D.C. area with basically a two-part album. The first three tracks, self penned, were done in the studio with organ/bass/drums for company and “Can’t Guarantee Tomorrow” a very fine blues, nice chord progression, and Mike flexing his fingers to great effect when the time comes. The rest of the album is dedicated to a power trio line up and cut live. A chance then for Mike and the boys to show us their qualities over “Mary Had A Little Lamb”, “Phone Booth”, Big Leg Woman” all of which are handled superbly. “Give Me Back My Wig” is tackled complete with the Hound Dog Taylor signature screaming slide and energy before the title track is actually reprised (it opens the album as one of the studio cuts) a funky little number which gives Mike the chance to mention as many blues guys he can. Already a legend in his own backyard lets see if we can get him to a wider audience and keep the blues alive.

Mike WESTCOTT & BLUES ON BOARD

KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE Website: http://www.bluesonboard.com/ Email: BluesOnBoard@aol.com Label: own management

Mike began to explore music at 8 years oldd and learned piano but exchanged quickly (at 10 years old) to strings and blossomed further on guitar. Mike discovered and underwent further training also on territory of sax and upright bass. Further he is also an artist on the lapsteel, bariton giutar, and seven string guitars. He also won scores of local guitar competitions. And then there is his debut CD “Keep The Blues Alive” which I already immediately believe is a pearl dare to name. The CD opens to an immediate shot with the title number and that song is dead on target. Delicious grooven and funky licks poured through the sound of a Hammond and as cherry on the cake the soulfull Mike Westcott, a straight ode at the big ones like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson etc... You can hear here clearly all about why Mike won several guitar competitions, as he solos delightfully . The rhythm section of Brian Constantino (drums) and Gene Monroe (bass) lead clear and do everything good the entire CD. Of the eight numbers on this CD there are four of Mike's own hand. Just on, understand me not been wrong, with the cover numbers of Buddy Guy (" Mary Had A Little Lamb") and Taylor (" Give Me Back My Wig") are certainly also well done. I think that the best of class On this CD is the Originals and look forward to hear more from this band in the future. I don't usualy make agreements or do predictions but is this certain person a new Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Bio

As four-time International Blues Challenge semi-finalists, Mike Westcott continues to explore and expand the boundaries of the hard-driving blues rock tradition. This 2007 and 2005 Washington Area Music Association’s “Best Blues Band” nominee enjoys a well-deserved reputation for consistently delivering powerful, memorable live performances - whether for 50 patrons in an intimate venue or for 350,000 raucous festival-goers. Mike’s expert songwriting, soulful voice and virtuoso guitar work remain the trademark of his rising force in the east-coast music scene. While unafraid to display the influence of those guitar greats that have gone before him, Mike Westcott's music has something original to say, and his band does so with a style and energy that is distinctly his own.
