Mikey de Lara

Mikey de Lara

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

If Eddie Vedder, John Mayer, and Glen Hansard were more vulnerable, intimate, and powerful, then you'd know what a Mikey de Lara performance was like.

Biography

Intimate, vulnerable, and performing with an emotional and energetic potency that truly stands out, Mikey de Lara and his backing band, The Last Show, perform and write a wide variety of songs that conjure up images and feelings that listeners percieve on a visceral level. His upcoming record, "Before Australia," expands on those ideas with a more acoustic line up (upright bass, violins, and hand percussion have been added) than his previous records, "Songs For Lulu," his 2008 release, reached #30 on the FMQB AAA chart and also charted on the CMJ charts on over 40 college stations.

Mikey moved to LA in 1997 to pursue his career in music. After more than a decade of playing in several bands and following conventional wisdom, he had an epiphany sitting on the side of a river in rural Oregon regarding his life and his music: Despite what anyone says, there is no defined path to success. If he were to find happiness in life, he must follow his instincts no matter what anyone or anything says. This led to the emotional and atmospheric sound of "Before Australia" and his most recent career choice.

Mikey chose to sell all his personal belongings that don't fit into his van and travel from town to town, like an old troubadour, and follow his desire to play music for those who appreciate it and to get out of the music industry rut. Currently, you might be able to find Mikey somewhere in between Seattle, WA, Baltimore, MD, and LA, CA. Truly an experience, Mikey's live shows and songs leave people with the impression that this is an artist that will linger in their hearts and memories for a long time.

Lyrics

Long Road

Written By: Michael de Lara

Watched the headlights reach out through the cold.
Flashing red lights on a hill, too far to be close.
Thought of you laughing.
Your smile warms me so sincerely.
With the stars as my home, I'm holding on.

The road feels so alone.
I think you can hear me.

Long road ahead.
Oh, I hope that you're at the end.
I feel you.
Baby, you're close and you're so far away.

Another city.
Feels just like the last.
Strangers' faces reappear as quick as they pass.
Are you listening?
Do you know how much I care that you're happy?
These nights don't fade away so fast.

God, I hope this has a point.
Will she be there waiting?

Long road ahead.
Oh, I hope that you're at the end.
I feel you, baby.
You're close and you're so far away.

Are you there?
Cause it's all happening.
It would be so nice to know you.

Unstoppable

Written By: Michael de Lara

I am unstoppable.
Watch what I say.
“I am unstoppable.”
This is the day I’m taking off the chains
Kept myself down
You know what I mean if you see what I see.
Make this sound...

“I am unstoppable.”
That’s what you say.
Because you are unstoppable there’s no other way.
They’ll put up all the walls to keep you in place.
And when you have found your light, they’ll back down, all right.
Hear them say

You are unstoppable.

We are unstoppable
One day we'll see
That we are unstoppable
Cause we’d believe
That deep down inside ourselves
That we belong.
We would stand up to fight
Because it’s our time.
Sing along...,

" I am unstoppable."

Walking In

Written By: Michael de Lara

Walking in
I met your eyes
And from across the room, I swear that everyone could hear me sigh
Felt a smile
The warmest light
And with a glance from you, a world began where every thing’s all right

I’d lie down with you forever
Just to hold you when you sleep
Whisper things you won’t remember
And hope they’ll rush to you
Whenever you might come to think of me

Took a stroll
Down the beach
The air was cold and wet whenever we’d go try and tease the sea.
Held your hand
The warmest light
And with a touch from you, a world began where every thing’s all right

I’d lie down with you forever
Just to hold you when you sleep
Whisper things you won’t remember
And hope they’ll rush to you
Whenever you might come to think of me

Walking in
I saw your eyes
And from across the room, I swear that everyone still hears me sigh
Kissed your lips
The warmest night
And with this kiss from you, a world began where every thing’s all right.

I’d lie down with you forever
Just to hold you when you sleep
Whisper things you won’t remember
And hope they’ll rush to you
Whenever you might come to think of me

Light Across The Ceiling

Written By: Michael de Lara

A long November night
When the air’s much colder
I tucked myself in tight
Closed my eyes
Remembered

Watching all the
Light across the ceiling
Floating
Over you lying next to me

You’re so soft
Smelled so nice
I kissed her
You tucked your dreams above the stars
And held me close
Remember?

Watching all the
Light across the ceiling
Floating
Over you lying next to me

But it’s so cold tonight
And I need to hold you closer
So warm
You’re my morning light
Breaking through the winter

Dreaming how the
Light across the ceiling
Floats
Over you lying next to me

Holding On

Written By: Michael de Lara

Speeding through a spring
While winter’s lingering
You hope the seasons change
Then you look outside, it’s raining

So, I’ll say to you we must be holding on
To the memories of a life that’s come and gone
So long
Cause if you wanted to watch the night turn into dawn
So, I’ll say to you we must be holding on
So long

Indian summer’s heat
Melts us into fall
The things that we can’t see
Connect us all

So, I’ll say to you we must be holding on
To the memories of a life that’s come and gone
So long
Cause if you wanted to watch the night turn into dawn
So, I’ll say to you we must be holding on
So long

You say, “I hope that someone sees me”
But I see you

Yesterday has died
Tomorrow’s not too far
Cause everything we’re trying
It’s not who we are

So, I’ll say to you we must be holding on
To the memories of a life that’s come and gone
So long
Cause if you wanted to watch the night turn into dawn
So, I’ll say to you we must be holding on
So long

Over You

Written By: Michael de Lara

Those pink ribbons in your hair
Would shine brighter when you weren’t there
The tears I cry alone tonight
Could never ever tell you why

I’m crying ‘cause I’m over you
I don’t love you like I used to do
When you want me, when you need me
You can look but I’ll be out the door

Your heart’s so cold, I felt alone
Now you’re gone. I’ll never, ever know
Why you’re so afraid to love yourself
Now I’ll leave that ghost to someone else

I’m crying ‘cause I’m over you
I don’t love you anymore
When you want me, when you need me
You can look but I’ll be out the door

The tears I cry alone at night
Could never ever tell you why
You’re so afraid to love yourself
Now I’ll leave that ghost to someone else

REPEAT 3RD CHORUS TWICE

Baby I Don't Love You Anymore

Written By: Michael de Lara

Baby, I don’t love you anymore
You pushed me away too hard this time
When it get’s cold, You’d pull me tight to heat you up inside
Of your heart. Then send me away. Goodbye.

And then you’d say, that you want me…

Baby, I don’t love you anymore
Your heartbeat’s faded for sometime.
Whispered words that disappear before they’ve left your lips,
They ask to hold on to your precious lies.

And then you’d say that you need me...

So, now I’ll try
To say goodbye
To everything I’ve ever wanted in my dreams

Baby, I don’t love you anymore
You’ve used me for the last time
So cruel, I said, goodbye and you stared and you didn’t say a thing
Break my heart, you’ve found every other way

So don’t you say, that you loved me…

Now I’ll try.
To say goodbye
To everything I’ve ever wanted in my dreams

Baby, I don’t love you anymore…

Silhouette

Written By: Michael de Lara

Too hot to hide under the covers
And you’re tucked in for the night
Laying my head beside you
The dark heartbeats aren’t so quiet

The sailing wind
That pulls me in
A silhouette was whispering
The sailing wind
That pulls me in
A silhouette was listening

Reaching my arm around you
The pillow’s soft, I smell your hair
Anticipating the moment
Cause we’re both here. Am I scared?

The sailing wind
That pulls me in
A silhouette was whispering
The sailing wind
That pulls me in
Your silhouette was listening

Taking a breath, I touch you
Feel you warm, I see you smile
You say, “I don’t want to risk everything…”
Words that linger inside
Words that linger inside

The sailing wind
That pulled me in
A silhouette was whispering
The sailing wind
It pulled me in
Your silhouette was listening
The sailing wind
Did I begin
To lose you here?
And everything
That we once had
Was promising
Do you hear me whispering?
