"Meet Mikey Gits"

By Joel Lawson

Mikey Gits may be quietly doing his thing, but he is still not escaping the attention of the media and prominent musicians and singers. One reggae singer cites: "Gits is going to be a superstar as soon as the world is introduced to him."

As a man who is never idle, Gits is currently working on his EP, to be followed up with an album early next year. When anyone can play a guitar like he is ringing a bell, no other name fits him than Gits (a shortening for guitar).

Bio

In today’s music industry it is not only essential to have talent, but you must have a thing called the “It Factor”. When you meet Mikey Gits, you know that he has “It” and you will be immediately drawn to him. Then, you listen to his music and his lyrics, and you know that his acoustic/pop/reggae album is going to be something extremely special. Gits is going to be a superstar as soon as the world is introduced to him.

Growing up in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mikey Gits was influenced by the sounds of music at a very early age. Some of his earliest memories are of listening to his Father’s old records of Sam Cooke, Earth Wind and Fire, the Commodores, and of his Mother singing gospel and country songs. "My parents were always into the older R&B stuff and they got me hooked. This gave me a good foundation and understanding of song creating and lyric flow, and of course how to put a great melody together." Since the age of 13, Gits has been performing professionally with bands at various resorts throughout Jamaica. Mikey Gits’ dedication to his music has never been deterred. Even while playing in resorts a three-hour bus ride away, Gits was determined to attend high school every day and continued to perform with the very popular high school band, Mystic Force. He was a key member of his nationally acclaimed high school orchestra that won gold medals throughout the nation. Gits was also awarded individual gold medals for his solo trombone performances. Some of his proudest moments came as a member of the Montego Bay Symphony where he performed for the Heads of States for Jamaica and organized fund raisers for school music programs. It was during this time that Gits realized his destiny was to be involved with music. Early in his career, Gits enjoyed touring and playing guitar with some of the most renowned acts in reggae music, such as Michael Rose, Diana King, Ken Boothe, Wailing Souls, Sanchez, and Bounty Killer.
