Singer, songwriter and vocal arranger Mikki Boyd is among the most exciting new artists to emerging this year. To categorize Mikki’s music likens to defining a hybrid of a hybrid—just don’t, for it deserves a category of its own. Mikki’s soul-kissed voice possess elements jazz , gospel and urban soul.

Mikki grew up in California’s Bay Area. She developed a passion for music at a young age, participating in her high school’s jazz vocal ensemble, choral choir and band. She also participated in gospel choir at her local church. After high school, Mikki, moved to Iowa and studied jazz with esteemed composer, pianist, and arranger, the Grammy nominated arranger Phil Matson, at the School for Music Vocations. After Iowa, Mikki moved back to the Bay Area and studied music at San Francisco State University where she earned her B.A. degree in Jazz Popular Styles music performance.
In 2006 Mikki moved to the Chicago area to further her studies at Northern Illinois University, under the tutelage of renowned saxophonist Ronald Carter. She earned her
M.A. degree in Independent Music with emphasis jazz vocal music and composition. Since, Mikki has moved back to the Bay area and performs regularly in the Bay Area sharing stage and or studio time with emerging bay area artist.

Working endlessly in the studio, Mikki’s debut EP is set to release in September, 2010
