Mildred is for my lost Aunt. Actually, she was just a great mentor to me growing up over the years. Actually, she never existed...it was just a name given that stuck. Off stage, I’m known as Austin Wilkes. I’m a 24 year old rising hip hop artist from Jackson, MS. After graduating from Ole Miss in May 2014, I’ve decided to pursue my music fully now that I have a degree to fall back on. Austin Wilkes, rap alias Mildred Noor, is an upcoming hip-hop musician from Jackson, Mississippi. After getting a degree in Broadcast Journalism, he is now dedicating time to fully concentrate on his craft. At age 24, NOOR is ready to establish himself as a premiere force in the music world. With his “unique use of play on words and effortless delivery”, as stated by The R Report magazine, he plans on doing so.
NOOR is currently finalizing his debut EP “No Direction” scheduled to release at the end of August 2015. Receiving minimal help on the project, he decided on the name due to the fact that he really didn’t have any direction on how the project would be created. Performing some of the tracks off the EP at several open mic events throughout the state, the feedback he’s received ensures that he is on the right path whatever direction he is headed.
Although NOOR has been in Mississippi the majority of his life, he often hears that he doesn’t sound like he’s a rapper from the South. Whether it’s the pronunciation of his delivery, his lyrical content, or the tone of his voice, many hear his music and assume that he is a Northern artist. NOOR has been recognized as a Battle Rap Winner at Top Star Hip Hop Radio, along with being a lead contender in the “Bump It or Dump It” section on Royal Thieves Radio based in NYC. With “No Direction” nearly complete, he plans to add to his list of accolades by touring with the EP and gaining additional performance opportunities.
